Mangalore, Oct 5: Bad roads, open drains, poor maintenance, and to top it all, apathy of the authorities led the residents of Shanthinagar 1st cross, Nandigudda to break their silence and vent their frustration with a protest here on Friday October 5.

Speaking to Daijiworld, one of the residents said that the Shanthinagar 1st cross Jeppu-Bappal road has not been tarred since six years. "When we go to corporator Appi to place our grievance, we are sent back with negative answers telling us to file an application in the city corporation," he said.

The area also lacks in drainage facility and as a result many of the nearby wells are polluted, he added.

Residents complained that the officials concerned are least bothered about the maintenance of the area.

Kevin D’Souza, Devi Prasad, Jossy Piador, Melwin, Wilsy, Roch, Kumar among others were part of the protest.

I hope protest was a peaceful one. Corporator should visit the place every month and see whats going on, then for what are you contesting the election, its not just for fun, I know its difficult to work for the cause of others, but you all stand for the election not for the people and their cause, but the big factor is money, friends you get elected its like bonus, your life is done, but the people are left to fight their own cause. Now garbage scene, well its up to the people of that area to see their place looks good, I feel sorry to look at the state the way garbge is thrown, I pity the houses that are close to the garbage what they must be going through. Hey guys of that area plan to put things in order and keep the place clean. Start this good work right away, I can see many youngsters in the protest, come together and plan how to dispose the garbage.

Well Done Residents of Shanthinagar to take up this matter and fight for the rights. We support you. Best of Luck. It is the important Basic necessity of the citizens of India to have proper roads and transportation. Citizens pay taxes to provide the basic fundamental necessities by any elected government. The government has failed to provide these amenities. This road has to be widened as it is too narrow, it has to be properly constructed with proper drain system for the water to flow during the rainy season, proper trash disposable bins are to be provided and installed. There is a long compound wall of saint Antony's poor home which is blocking the widening of the road. It is very sad to see this situation in the 21st century, no efforts have been made by the government to provide the basic necessity of the citizens.

Sir Winston Churchill wrote to the British government against granting freedom to India, 64 years ago:

"Power will go to the hands of rascals, rogues, freebooters all Indian leaders will be of low calibre & men of straw. They will have sweet tongues & silly hearts. They will fight amongst themselves for power & India will be lost in political squabbles. A day would come when even air & water would be taxed in India".

I think there is some truth in his statement. Don't you all think?

    Our mistakes....
    1. Electing unable candidates.
    2. Don't have culture of systematic house keeping.
    3. House keeping should begins from each & every home.
    4. Garbage thrown here and there, which is showing our culture of house keeping.
    5. If someone have the little culture of house keeping, they never throw Garbage like shown in the Picture.
    6. Residents of shanti Nagar put question your selves, you are also responsible for dirty of your area. Join hands and clean your area.

This corporator is winning from this ward for the past 3 to 4 elections even though doing nothing, because of sc/st votes. Whatever complaints residents go with, the ready made answer from her is "now BJP is in majority, so I can not do anything!". Residents should keep such people out in the next elections.

Shameless corporator! People of this ward should teach a lesson to this corporator by giving minimum votes!! Take him to task and shame him. Majority of these problems except drainage can be fixed with few lakh Rs. MCC should be able to provide this to carry out basic necessity! If carporater willing...he can find a way!!
