Mangalore, Oct 5: To create awareness among the public on malaria, students of Dr M V Shetty College of Social Work presented a street play here on Friday October 5.

The play was organized in association with the city corporation and staged near Lady Goschen Hospital.

Speaking on the occasion, health officer Dr Sudarshan lauded the efforts of the students of Dr M V Shetty College and the organizer in presenting such a meaningful play.

"If four to five such street plays are presented on a regular basis, we can educate the public and eliminate malaria and other diseases from the city," he said, adding that others also should follow the example set by the College.

He also spoke a few words on how to prevent malaria and keep the surroundings clean.

District malaria control officer Dr Arun inaugurated the programme by beating a drum.

The street play focused on several aspects of malaria including its prevention and how it spreads. Apart from donning the roles of various characters like malaria-infested patient and so on, they also put up placards explaining about the disease. The students also made use of props like coconut shells to convey that stagnant water is a prime breeding place for malarial parasites.

Very good job by students. Worth emulating. As is my wont I see the lighter or funnier side of things, though there isn't much to see in case of an Umil or Fly !
    Right?

Good initiative Students. Keep it up. Lots of young people are the victim of Malaria and Fileria today in our Mangalore specially in coastal area. This is because of lack of awareness about the cause of the diseases.
