Moily Thanks PM for Granting International Status to Mangalore Airport

Media Release

Mangalore/New Delhi, Oct 5: Union minister for corporate affairs Dr M Veerappa Moily has expressed his happiness on the grant of international status to Mangalore Airport through a media release. It may be mentioned that Dr Moily, as part of the union cabinet, along with MP Jayaprakash Hegde who followed up the matter, played an instrumental role in getting the union government to pass the proposal for the international status to the airport.

The media release states:

"I am very happy that Union Cabinet has approved the proposal of declaring Mangalore Air Port as international airport along with other three airports of the country.

Mangalore is the gate way of Karnataka and it has the potential to develop as an important commercial centre next to Mumbai on the Western Coast. It has an excellent hinterland and with the advantage (of) modern harbor a number of industries have been situated in this region. Manipal and other educational institutions have already attracted attention of the entire world.

The region has already boomed itself as a prominent hub of excellence. Every house of the region has at least one person as NRI. Mangalore Airport is functioning since 1951 and most deserved to be declared as international airport. Presently it has the facilities of handling 400 passengers in the domestic arrival hall and 150 international passengers in international hall.

I have been keenly pursuing the matter for a couple of years for its declaration as an International Airport keeping in view of the benefit ofthe international commuters and also for the benefit of the region.

I thank Hon'ble Prime Minister and Minister of Civil Aviation for considering my request and declaring it as International Airport."

Declaring international airport doesn't make any difference to the traveller. There is no direct international flight to Mangalore from Saudi Arabia.
Unless the harrassment from the custom officials is brought down, I prefer to travel through Mumbai international airport. There is a big mafia for carrying luggage and will snatch your baggage as if they help for free. Moving along the baggage till the parking holding the rope will start arguing for service money. What a pathetic situation... Jagho..Nagarik...Jagho...
Our neighbour state has 4 international airport and has excellent connection to gulf countries.

Joke of the century. I appreciate Moily's efforts but I strongly disagree your suggestion of naming Mangalore airport in his name. We had enough of politics in renaming cities, roads and airports. I don't mind if they name Mangalore airport in honour of national heroes who work for the country.

Its good news for mangaloreans.Thank you Honourable Minister Mr, Veerappa Moily. I Have one sincere request - The approach road very incovenient. It is very steep and hence common man or rikshaw find it difficult to commute. Some alternate route may be ed.

There are still 4 key ingredients needed to make it truly an international airports:

    1. Other Airlines including international ones should be allowed to land.

    2. Proper entry and exit roads from the airport to the city.

    3. Proper main road (unlike the mudpile now) from the airport exit to Kavoor.

    4. Regular bus services (like at Bangalore airport) from and to the airport.

Cargo Terminal would be a bonus.

Make it 'Under Achiever MMS International Airport' ?

Do you have a shame on your face buddy? Does Moily's name deserve to be Mangalore Airport name? What is his contribution to Mangalore buddy? Moily is elected to serve people. If he does any extra ordinary job then you can suggest his name.

When people are recommending 'Rani abbakka airport' or 'US Mallya airport', you need to compare Moily with them.

Question is what does International mean ? what would be different than existing setup and service point of view for the guests who fly through Mangalore Airport ?

Need to know what is changing ? Does the change costs guests to pay higher ticket costs ? In essence, what is going to change ? from Domostic (current ) and Int'l (future ) Mangalore airport. A question everyone need to ask...

We all should appreciate Dr Moilys effort for the granting of international status..South canarians have to mind that, he is an MP from chickballapur not from SK before criticizing him.His dedication and love for his home district is unquestionable.this is his second gift to undivided south canara after 220 KV receiving station in kemar karkala..which is backbone of power system network entire SK/udupi district. We miss him as a MP from undivided south canara.

We need to thank all the ministers who had taken interest in this matter from both the major parties as well as the airport manager.
Meantime moilyji- request you to take serious interest in seeing that more funds are allocated for the infrastructure of this airport so that bigger flights with more passenger load could be handled smoothly.
Friends be united, so that we don't loose out any new route to our neighbouring state.
