Mangalore, Oct 5: Blaring sirens on roads, from ambulance, fire engine, police vehicle or even a minister are common, and hardly ever grab anyone's attention.

But when the siren blares from a bank - well, that's a different story, and not as common.

On Friday October 5, curious residents and passersby in and around Valencia gathered outside Canara Bank branch in the area on hearing a siren go off.

Eager faces waited outside to see whether it was a robbery attempt. The police and bank officials too arrived at the spot and opened the bank gates.

But the crowd's hopes to see robbers being marched out by the police, or pehaps to even catch any escaping robber were dashed when reality struck.

The siren turned out to be nothing but a false alarm, triggered off due to a technical problem.

After considerable time and efforts, the snag was finally set right, and the dejected crowd dispersed.

Perhaps when there is a real robbery the alarm will not function and the thieves will pose as customers and get away scot-free !!! Quite often these contraptions do not work when they ought to !

Good news that the people of Mangalore have become alert. As a Banker I have experienced this many a times.Whenever the siren blares I used to run outside to see the gathering of the crowd but to my surprise not found a single soul.
