Six Killed in Firing at Pakistan Political Rally

Islamabad, Oct 8 (IANS): At least six people were killed and 10 injured when two rival groups fired at each other during a political gathering in Pakistan Sunday night, police and witnesses said.

The incident took place in Khairpur district of Sindh province, Xinhua reported citing local media.

Police and witnesses told Geo TV channel that the firing took place around 8.20 p.m. after a fierce argument between two rival groups at a political gathering organised by the ruling Pakistan Peoples Party.

Nafeesa Shah, member of the National Assembly or lower house of parliament and daughter of the Sindh Chief Minister, who was addressing the gathering, said the firing was an outcome of an old enmity between the two groups.

A journalist working for the government-run PTV was also killed in the incident.

Hospital sources said some of the wounded were in critical condition and the toll may rise.
