Mangalore, Oct 7: “The state government itself is unaware of a number of new rules it has made during its reign”, said MLA U T Khader, addressing a press meet at the district Congress office, on Monday October 7.
The state government has been implementing a new rule once in every six months. The government itself isn’t aware of the number of rules it has newly amended. All the issues need to be solved on priority if the government is really in favour of the general public, he said.
People in the state are facing many problems with recent issues such as Cauvery water crisis, LPG cylinders, stone crushers stay, ration card issue and cheque distribution delay.
Regarding the Cauvery issue he said that the state government has taken an unscientific decision even after knowing that the state is facing drought. "This issue can be solved only if both Kerala and Karnataka receive rainfall in the next ten days," he added.
He alleged the government of foul play in distribution of LPG cylinders. Due to new rules, common man is suffering and the nation’s economy is badly affected, he said.
“The stay on stone crushers is leading to disruption in construction works. One is aware that it is during these months that the construction of buildings, roads, gutters etc usually take place. Due to the seizure of stone crushers, development works in the district have been highly affected”, he said.
If a new name has to be entered in the ration card, all the members of the family need to be present in the booth during enrollment. In the absence of any one of the members it is not possible to make changes. These rules are creating many problems to the public, he said. There are many errors in electoral and ration card enrollment like change in name, address, panchayat areas etc despite recruiting enough number of staff and usage of new technologies. Such mistakes are not acceptable. Strict action has to be taken against the officials, he said.
Eligible candidates in the minority community are given cheques under the Karnataka Minority Development Board. But for quite a long period, the cheques have been delayed for the reason that there are no eligible candidates, which is a major issue faced by the minority community. There are nearly 200 cheques pending in the Mangalore city constituency, he added.
Congress leaders namely, Moideen Bawa, T K Sudhir, H S Kareem, Mithun Rai,Krishna Gatti, Nithin Prabhu, Hema, Mohan Mendon among many others were present at the press meet.
