Udupi, Oct 9: In a tragic incident, a 13-year-old boy drowned in a quarry pit near Janatha Colony in Saibrakatte, Brahmavar on Monday October 8 noon.
The deceased has been identified as Akshay Kumar (13), son of Kushala Poojary of Janatha Colony.
All three students were studying at the Saibrakatte primary school.
The incident took place when Akshay along with Suresh and Srikanth went for a swim to the nearby quarry as it was a holiday.
Sources said that, since the children were not aware of the depth, they began to drown. Meanwhile a few women who were washing clothes nearby tried to rescue them and succeeded in saving only two. Efforts to save Akshay went in vain.
Brahmavar police along with the fire brigade rushed to the spot.
A case has been registered against the quarry owner.
