Sonia Assures Justice to Rape Victim's Family

Narwana (Haryana), Oct 9 (IANS): Those guilty of the raping a teenaged Dalit girl who committed suicide would get the severest punishment, Congress president Sonia Gandhi said here Tuesday after meeting the victim's family in a village near this Haryana town.

Gandhi, who arrived in Sachhakhera village in Haryana's Jind district, about 150 km from the state capital Chandigarh, met the family for about 10 minutes and assured them of "full justice'.

"Main is tarah ki ghatna ki bharpoor ninda karti hoon. Doshi ko sakht se sakht saza milni chahiye (I criticise, in the strongest terms, these kinds of incidents. The guilty should get the severest punishment)," Gandhi told journalists.

"We have democratic systems here. We have a judiciary. The law is in the hands of the judiciary and nobody else," the Congress chief said after meeting the family of the 16-year-old who immolated herself Saturday.

Gandhi said that these kinds of incidents should stop, not just in Haryana but across the country.

The victim belonged to a poor, Dalit family. She was allegedly raped by two youths from her neighbourhood Saturday, after which she doused herself with kerosene and set herself ablaze.

The victim was rushed to the Post-Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (PGIMS) at Rohtak where she succumbed to burn injuries.

In her dying statement, the victim told the police that she took the extreme step after the rape.

The mother of the victim said Tuesday that if the accused did not get severe punishment and if justice was not done, she would commit suicide herself.

The victim has six younger siblings.

Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda, who had never before visited any of the victims of rape or their families, was present at the village along with state ministers and top civil and police officers during the visit of the Congress president.

Hooda had maintained that "no accused would be spared".

Haryana has seen 12 incidents of gang-rape and rape in the past 28 days.

Among those accompanying Gandhi Tuesday was union minister Kumari Selja.

Police have made some headway in this case, arresting five people, including a woman and her policeman husband, on suspicion of conspiring with the rapists.

The woman and her husband, a Haryana police constable, had allegedly stood guard outside the house where the victim was gang-raped.

Haryana cabinet minister Randeep Singh Surjewala, who was present when Gandhi met the victim's family, said that the Congress president and the chief minister had come to offer their condolences to the family.

"The state government is solidly behind the victim's family. The guilty will be brought to book," Surjewala said.

Sonia Gandhi being the Congress President should come out and brief the media on the Robert Vadra - DLF - Haryana Govt land deals. It is surprising that all the Union Cabinet Ministers quickly came out to rescue Robert Vadra. If Robert Vadra is an individual ( as claimed by the Ministers ) then why did the Ministers miss their sleep to rescue the corrupt man ? How did the same UPA Govt. move against Raja, Kanimozi & Jagan Reddy ? The case was the same. It was shamelss to see these Ministers trying to protect Robert Vadra esp. Moily, Chidambaram,Jayanthi Natarajan & Renuka Choudrey. They all looked cheap & silly when the whole world knows the truth.

The surprising part is to see Arun Jaitley, Sukbir Singh Badal ,CM of Punjab, keeping away from this controversy. Is it because they too own ( or been gifted by DLF ) apartments in DLF Aralias / DLF Magnolia ? These are known premier condo's in the country , probably the No.1 .

The Karnataka Governor should not have commented on Kejriwal's revelations.Being a representative of the President of India he should have shut his mouth and been quiet.

Is India a Banana Republic or a Democracy ? Its for the Indian people to decide at the earliest.

I really doubt whether the Sonia Gandhi visits Jind, to meet rape victim's family is just a reason to swindle the evidence of Robber Vudra & DLF's dealings wid the CM of Haryana.

More to discuss the DLF-Haryana Govt-Robber Vudra nexus.

Sonia Gandhi is most powerful lady of our country. I am sure she can amend the law within no time. Once the death penalty is made mandatory, the rape menace across the country will stop. Our sisters will be safe if strict law is in place.Enough is enough.

Why there is no strict law and order to punish these culprits. ?How come so many rape cases are going on, all over India? There is no security for females in India. Today Madam Sonia is giving justice to rape family, tomorrow one more rape case will come up. According to me culprits should hang in front of public and punish him severely, so others will learn the lesson to give respect to women. All are saying India is developing. Developing in what? Now a days we can see so many rape, murder cases all over the country, there is no respect for humans .

What Justice will Sonia Gandhi give to Rape Victim's Family ? Its a Spilt milk case ? Two more rapes on the same day Sonia visited Haryana reported. If this was any BJP ruled state by now Center & media would have created BAWAL like they did during the recent roumers about alleged attack on NE students.
