Kasargod: Accused in Double Murder Case Caught from Coconut Tree!

Kasargod, Oct 9: After four years of relentless and fruitless search, Kerala police have finally arrested the accused in a double murder case - straight from a coconut tree!

The Kerala police have arrested Jayesh alias Shaheer in connection with the murder of Soumya (23) and her daughter Jisnu (3), in Addolige near Shiradi in Puttur taluk on August 2, 2008. Soumya's husband Rohith had filed a complaint of murder against his uncle's son Jayesh in Uppinagady police station.

After the incident, Jayesh fled to Kerala, where he was later known by the name Shaheer. He lived with a woman named Rahiya. Police sources said that he stayed in rented houses in different places such as Kayamkulam, Chettikulangara, Aratupu and others.

Even after relentless search, the police failed to track him. A lookout notice was also issued. Karnataka police received information that he was hiding in Kerala, but failed to find him.

It is learnt that from past two months Jayesh was living in a rented house near Aratupu’s Paatinashkeri junction with Rahiya and two children. He then came in contact with a man by Anas from Thamarakulam. A week ago, Anas along his wife and child visited Jayesh and stayed in his rented house.

On Sunday October 7, Jayesh and his friend Anas were arrested at Aratupu for allegedly assaulting women while under the influence of alcohol. While Anas was caught by the police, Jayesh managed to escape.

The locals after a thorough search for Jayesh found him hiding on a coconut tree at around 10.30 pm. When he refused to climb down, the fire brigade was called and the police eventually managed to get him down from the tree and arrested him.

Upon investigation, it came to light that he was involved in the double murder that took place in Shiradi four years back. On Monday, Uppinagady police took him into custody.

Police sources said that Rahiya, who lived with Jayesh, is wife of Asif, the prime accused in murder of Thamarekula Aluva Joseph.
