Kundapur: Theatre Artiste Jayashree Honoured with Dr Karanth Hutturu Award

Kundapur, Oct 11: Dr B Jayashree, veteran theatre artiste, singer and Rajya Sabha member was conferred the '2012 Dr Kota Shivaram Karanth Huttura Prashasti' during a ceremony at Kota Giliyaru Shambhavi School premises, Kotathattu gram panchayat here on Wednesday October 10 evening.

The annual award, instituted by Kotathattu gram panchayat, has been presented to different personalities over the past seven years.

Speaking after receiving Award, Dr Jayashree said that the award was the most precious award of her life.

"Having received the award on the birthday of Dr Karanth and in his birth place, I have a huge responsibility to do justice to the honour bestowned on me. No other award can match this honour," she said.

Jayashree said that the immense contribution of Dr Karanth to the field of literature was inimitable and commendable. "The award which I have received in his name will be my inspiration to all the future works I undertake," she said.

The award was presented to Dr Jayashree by Kota Srinivas Poojary, minister of muzrai.

Addressing the gathering, Poojary said Dr Karanth Award is equal to state and national recognitions.

He said the initiative taken by Kotathattu gram panchayat in honouring famous personalities with the Award was noteworthy. "This shows their true dedication and contribution to the society," he added.

The award ceremony was inaugurated by A G Kodgi, chairman of Third Finance Task Force. Raghu Thingalaaya, president of Kotathattu gram panchayat presided over the programme.

Poet Nisar Ahmed briefed on the works of Dr Karanth.

Devi Prasad Shetty, Zilla Panchayat Okkuta president, Sunitha Rajaram, zilla panchayat member, Parvathi Hande, C S Prabhakar Sharma, Pramod Hande among others were present.

Anand Kunder welcome the gathering, Jyothi Saligram of Radio Mirchi compered and Yashoda, panchayat PDO proposed the vote of thanks.
