Mangalore, Oct 11: Pragrati 2012 the biennial symposium is an initiative to ignite young minds and awaken them to the realities surrounding them. It deals with current social issues that affect the youth the most. The topic for the symposium was Youth- Intrinsic Motivation and was held on 10th October, 2012 at AIMIT, St Aloysius College, Beeri.

The event began with a video which was compiled by Akhil, Clinton and Ebin from 2nd yr MBA that showcased profits in any field across the spectrum were for society, community, social awareness, social engagement and upliftment of the society as whole. The message that was driven home through the video to Gen Y was to become Social Entrepreneurs.

 Reshma Fernandes and her team  from 2nd yr MBA led the entire gathering into prayer. It was followed by the lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries. The chief guest for the symposium was Dr Neeta Inamdar Director, Manipal Centre for European Studies, Manipal University. She was introduced by Dr Rowena Wright Dean (Academics) AIMIT, St Aloysius College (Autonomous).

The Keynote address was given by the Chief Guest.She motivated the students to be more ‘Outcome oriented rather than Output Oriented.’  The premise of her address was to be focused towards learning for life and not just for exams. She made the students to reflect over the idea to live life powerfully by giving back to society which would catapult them to greater heights both in the corporate and entrepreneurial world.

Rev Dr Oswald Mascarenhas SJ, the Chairman, MBA dept., AIMIT, in his message mentioned that all his life his primary quest was to promote intrinsic motivation among the youth. According to him the cardinal step towards intrinsic motivation was to introspect on oneself. He further added that intrinsic motivation had three pertinent vectors which included God , Others and Yourself. Among them God is the most of the important vector which binds all the vectors together. This is because God is within us.He focused that motivation is not static in nature but is always moving, that encourages oneself to be motivated in life and not to lose direction through the journey of life. The Second vector is others which is in congruence with the college mission of creating “Men and Women for Others”. The third Vector is yourself which comes from within you and whatever that comes from within yourself according to Rev Dr Mascarenhas SJ is in the purest form.

Rev Fr Denzil Lobo SJ, the Director, AIMIT, then delivered the presidential address. He focused on some of the great people who had overcome some of the biggest challenges in their life. He also urged the students to be passionate in whatever they do by attaining satisfaction from within and not from external factors.
 
The inaugural session was concluded with a vote of thanks which was given by Mrs Claret D’Souza, the faculty coordinator of Pragathi. . The entire session was compered by Nidhin Raj and Meghana Bopaiah.
