Mangalore: 'Yaya Ind-ya Mayaya' All-India Konkani Dance Contest in Jan

Mangalore, Oct 11: Four leading Konkani organizations - Jagotik Konknni Songhotton, Konkani Prachar Sanchalan, Nach Sobhann and Mandd Sobhann - will organize 'Yaya Ind-Ya Mayaya' the first all-India Konkani dance contest, with auditions to take place in seven centres in four states, informed Eric Ozario, convener of the organizing committee and Gurkar of Mandd Sobhann at a press meet here on Thursday October 11.
 
The auditions will be held in Mangalore, Mumbai, Goa, Bangalore, Honnavar, Kasargod, and Udupi.

He said that the contest will be open for boys and girls between the age group of 15 and 35. The contest will be in two categories viz group and duet. Prizes worth over Rs 5 lakh will be awarded, he added.
 
The uniqueness of this contest is that though the song chosen by the participants will have to be in Konkani (of any dialect or region), the participant can be of any language, region or religion.
 
The auditions will be held in the months of January/February. The semi-finals and finals will be on May 18 and 19, 2013, respectively, in Kalaangann, Mangalore.
 
Explaining the rules of the contest, Ozario said that a contestant in the duet category may also compete in the group category, but cannot compete twice in a category. The entry fee for the duet category is Rs 500 and for group it is Rs 1,000. Travel fare of the contestants coming to Mangalore for the semi-finals will be reimbursed by the organizers. All applications should be in the prescribed form and the same is available on www.manddsobhann.org.
 
Applications should be accompanied by a demand draft favouring Mandd Sobhann payable at Mangalore for the relevant entry fee of Rs 1,000 and 500 as applicable.
