President Inaugurates Ktaka's Second Legislature Complex in Belgaum

Belgaum, Oct 11 (PTI): President Pranab Mukherjee today inaugurated the 'Suvarna Vidhana Soudha', Karnataka's second legislature and secretariat complex here, ignoring appeals from some political parties in Maharashtra to keep away from the function citing boundary row between the two states.

The Rs 400 crore structure, almost a replica of the state Secretariat Vidhana Soudha in Bangalore, is seen as a step to take state administration closer to north Karnataka region in a bid to assuage the feeling of neglect by the people there.

"I hope the representatives of the region will utilise the new platform provided for good governance, economic growth and to remove regional imbalance," Mukherjee said.

NCP and Shiv Sena had appealed to the President not to inaugurate the Soudha, saying it would mean the Centre was ignoring their state's rights over "Marathi-dominated areas".

The location of the building, housing Assembly, Council besides the secretariat, in Belgaum is considered significant as it is viewed as a symbolic assertion of Karnataka's long-held stand that the city is its integral part.

Maharashtra claims that Belgaum belongs to it but Karnataka has been insisting that it became a closed chapter when the central-government appointed Mahajan Commission in its report in August 1967 had stated that the city was part of Karnataka.

Mukherjee said he was privileged to be amongst people of north Karnataka who had witnessed historic moments in Indian freedom movement from Rani Kittur Channamma fighting against colonial exploitation to Bal Gangadhar Tilak launching 'Home Rule' movement with his slogan "Swaraj is my birthright".

He also reminisced the holding of Indian National Congress meetings here under the presidentship of Mahatma Gandhi.

Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar assured that the winter session of Karnataka Assembly will be held here every year and committee meetings, cabinet meetings and international conferences will also be held.

Elaborate security arrangements had been made in view of protests by pro-Maharashtra outfits including Maharashtra Ekikaran Samiti against Mukherjee's visit, but police said no protests were held across the district.

    Dinesh Poojary
Is it Kota mPoojary's job to erect such structures across K'taka.
It seems you are not aware of his ministerial requirements.
Secondly he is supposed to look after development of ports. I do not see any noticeable development in any of the ports so far.
So let him concentrate on providing free meals and develop ports that require desilting, approach channels, storm barriers etc.
Then you talk about this humble man.
    People need development.
You may have read, fishermen and other traders, boat owners complaining for not having much needed BASIC facilities in all the existing ports in Coastal Karnataka

For readers attention: fact is that JDS/BJP governament has conducted 5 days legislature session in Belagavi in 2006 and just announced that Belagavi will be the 2nd capital of karnataka.
After BJP came to power Mr. Yeddy laid the foundation stone for Legislature complex in Belagavi on 22nd Jan 2009 and on October 11th 2012 President of Inida inaugurated the complex. Why there are some commentrators are making politics ove this issue, they should think that whatever good works done in India/respective state it will be for people. Also remararkable achievement is that within 3 years 10 months this complex has made ready. Whatever may be Yeddy today but this complex is his brain child & credit should go to him not HDK. Few commentrators should enhance their knowledge prior to inking.

Belgaum has been always part of Karnataka. The moola nivasis of Belgaum are/were kannada speakers. In certain areas there might be heigher marathi population. Few days back certain politician of maharastra has compared Belgaum as kashmir of karnataka for trouble. It is true that certain maharastrians are behaving like pakistanis in case of Belgaum.
Belgaum will always be in Karnataka.

Good step to remove regional development imbalance!
Why only People across the state? It is legitimate right of People across the country, to demand their regional development for livelihood. Thereby migration to Big cities would be reduced no one can brand any Indian as an outsider in their own country.

It is like having another monument like VS in Bangalore.
No governance, none of the ministers attending meetings, all the time looking forward to go abroad with all the jingbang, not even bothered so many people starving due to drought.
    This is surely another monument.
RIP all the Farmers who committed suicide and others who died of starvation.

Kota Srinivas Poojary will ensure such building will come up in Mangalore or Udupi. Just wait and see. He is a capable and humble man. After he became minister Udupi is getting big big projects like ports, roads, bridges, markets etc.

Sorry, it is not possible from Moily, Poojary or Oscar. But they can demolish such kind of buildings in just overnight.

    BJP makes everything possible.

Current Congress leaders can not make a good GRAMA PANCHAYAT building.

For Ex: The Commonwealth Games welcome building roof collapsed before the inauguration.

Devraj Urs, Kengal Hanumanthayya's charisma is not there congis now.

Solapur is a Kannada dominated area. In Kolhapur, Sangli and southern Sattara district Kannadigas are large in numbers. Our Karnataka Rakshana Vedike is not claiming these areas. Shiva Sene and MNS should learn from Kannadigas. As per Mahajana Report both KASARAGOD and BELAGAAVI are part of Karnataka.

    Jai Karnataka.

Thanks to HDK who had initiated second legislature Complex in Belagaon. The structure, replica of KENGAL HANUMATYA's Vidhan Soudha of Bengalore will make somewhat Kannadigas(Mumbai Karnataka)proud and happy.Mahajan Commission reports is final and BELGAVI is integral part of Karnataka. NCP or SS should desist from raking the issue for good and this move will trigger all round development of the region.Unfortunately,Oppn party leader and HDK had not given opportunity to be in stage of this colorful function.

It Looks beautiful.Northern part of Karnataka is proud to have it in their region.Considering its usage, it is a waste of public money. With the same money thousand of houses could have been built for the benefit of poor or some good roads could haven provided.
