The Konkani translation of the Pope's Apostolic Letter "Porta Fidei" done by Fr Francis D'Souza was released by bishop. The copies of the same were freely distributed among the faithful who participated the Eucharist.

Fr Vijay Machado, designate director of Mangalajyothi compered the liturgy and the inaugural programme and Fr Henry Sequeira proposed the vote of thanks.

Year of Faith

Pope Benedict XVI with the Apostolic Letter of October 11, 2011 'Porta Fidei', declared a Year of Faith, beginning on October 11, 2012, on the 50th anniversary of the opening of the second Ecumenical Vatican Council, and concluding on November 24, 2013.

The beginning of the Year of Faith coincides with the anniversaries of two great events which have marked the life of the Church: the 50th anniversary of the opening of the second Vatican Council, called by Pope John XXIII (October 11, 1962), and the 20th anniversary of the promulgation of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, given to the Church by Pope John Paul II (October 11 1992).

The Year of Faith is intended to contribute to a renewed conversion to the lord Jesus and to the rediscovery of faith, so that the members of the Church will be credible and joy-filled witnesses to the Risen Lord in the world of today - capable of leading those many people who are seeking it to the “door of faith.” This “door” opens wide man’s gaze to Jesus Christ, present among us “always, until the end of the age” (Mt 28:20). There is a need for stronger ecclesial commitment to new evangelization in order to rediscover the joy of believing and the enthusiasm for communicating the faith.”

The Inauguration of the year of faith in every parish will be done next Sunday by unveiling the logo plaque and reciting the Nicene creed.

Welcome to the yaer of faith. Faith is great help in our daily lives. When there is difficulty in our lives we forget what christ did for us and we totally confuse what to do. Our faith must help us at all moments because Christ suffered so much like thorns on His head and heavy load on His shoulders, spit over His face, etc. He just beared for us and showed it is momentary, on the third day He rose again and our faith is enriched by this act. Then why we should be troubled when difficuly comes? I am ashamed to say, that three young persons (30-35) in our neighbourhood died by hanging/suicide because of some troubles in life. Its because of lack of faith. If we have money problem, we can tell some people who can find a solution in our Manglore diocese but till now i think we do not have such idea. We should have a helping body where these you can come up in life and earn at least something abroad also. So no one should hang himself and loose the soul. If any body has any problem, they can approach the church or near by help committe and they can be helped. We have to do something for those who have difficult moments in life. We can give some assurance and guidance. So deep faith in our christian life can come when we have intercession or prayer groups in konkani or in english every week may be on tuesdays or wednesdays. Should be conducted every week as we have in gulf countries.

Following my reflections on Faith, one of my best friends asked to read Hebrews (New Testament, letters) chapter 11: 1 something interesting mentioned in the Bible. 11: 1 Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Let me know if it makes sense.

Today the Catholic Church celebrates the 50th Anniversary of the Vatican Council 11 and 20 years of existence of the New Catechism.
    - At the same time today the Holy Father, Pope Benedict opens the “YEAR OF FAITH”.

The Year of Faith is a time to:
    - Reflect on the gift of faith.
    - Deepen our knowledge and understanding of the teaching of the Church.
    - Read, reflect and pray with the Scriptures.
    - Nourish and strengthen our faith through the Holy Eucharist.
    - Open the door of faith for others.

We the people of God who have heard Jesus speak to us through His Gospels, tell us “ Why are you afraid, O you of little faith, then He rose and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was a great calm.
    - We need proclaim Him, in our daily life that Jesus is Our Lord and God through our kindness of word and action to others.
    - We must welcome Jesus, who dwells in each of us, and we must meet Him in the Eucharist everyday, and must make Him dear to us.

"Without God, man ultimately chooses selfishness over solidarity and love. - Material things over good values.
    - We must return to God, so that we may learn to put God first in our life.

We must contemplate Mary, the mother of Jesus, we must ask if we too wish to be open to the Lord as she was.
    - If we wish to offer Jesus, our life as a dwelling place for HIM, then we must not be afraid that the presence of God may somehow place limits on our freedom.

Life with Christ, is not enslavement.
But genuine freedom, since "it is precisely God who liberates our liberty.
    - He frees it from being closed in on itself, from the thirst for power.
    - It is God who opens up the dimensions in life that fulfill us, such as "the gift of self, gift of love, which in turn becomes service and sharing."
    - Faith removes nothing from the human creature," but instead "permits his full and final realization."

Faith grows when it is lived as an experience of love received and when it is communicated as an experience of grace and joy. It makes us fruitful because it expands our hearts in hope and enables us to bear life-giving witness indeed, it opens the hearts and minds of those who listen to respond to the Lord’s invitation and adhere to his Word and become His disciples.

Thank you, Bishop Aloysius, for your initiatives in inaugurating the Year of Faith in Mangalore.

Catholicism is the only faith that creates this kind of awareness so that people may continue their faith and dedication to life by being mindful of all the difficult challenges that are ahead of all of us.

Life is so uncertain on account of so many daily challenges that confront us in so many ways of our life. The uncertainty in climatic changes, economic constraints, political tensions and many other situations bring so many impacts in our life.

Faith is therefore the best gift thru which we can ask God's blessings so that each passing day will help us to move along with a hope to survive day after day.

It ‘s great this year is dedicated to year of faith. Faith is mystery. Faith is complicated subject as it involves believing in an entity that one can not feel, touch, hear, felt or there is no sensual pleasure. Hence, even your mind can’t fantasize what it is. Need to go beyond mind without analyzing. But your heart needs to work. It is language of love. It is not a kind of thing that you believe in existence of physical being . Hence your mind is limited – need to believe in a Being that is Unlimited, be your grasp. There is another aspect one tends not to believe in the existence of God and live in darkness. That’s where most of us have testing period or blind belief. All that I recommend is say Apostles Creed meaningfully and slowly once a day. That covers most of the aspect of Faith – Believe in Father, Son and Holy spirit and Catholic church.
