Udupi, Oct 12: Students of polytechnic colleges led by Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Tiger Circle, Manipal here on Friday October 12 to condemn the rape and murder of 17-year-old Sowjanya and demand quick action in the case.

Demanding arrest of the culprits and stringent punishment, the protestors formed a human chain around Tiger Circle.

They strongly condemned the incident and said that it is a matter of shame to the civilized society.

"College-going girls are forced to live in fear and be anxious about their safety. The culprits should be arrested at the earliest and be given strict punishment," they demanded.

The ABVP also demanded appropriate measure to ensure the safety of girls so that such incidents do not occur again.

"The case should not be closed due to lack of evidence or any other reason, and should not be dealt like any ordinary case," they urged, adding that justice should be done to the family of Sowjanya as well to the general public.

Students of TMA Polytechnic, Manipal and Udupi Government Polytechnic took part.

The protestors also submitted a memorandim to the deputy commissioner on the occasion.

ABVP leader Shivakumar, members Prashanth Shettty, Adarsh Bangera, Prasanna Shetty and others led the protest.

Dear Prasanna Ravi (i.e. the first person to comment on this thread), is there meant to be a dress code for protests now? Are you saying that the police will not investigate the case because the students are wearing the wrong clothes?
And to answer your question, (what type of justice you need?): Full and proper justice is the usual norm. I don't know what you practice personally.

Every Act of Rape/Murder should be highly deplorable/condemned.
So sad heinous crime graph is never on decline!
One of the Reason: In society, we speak of only Education, Richness and Looks but for CHARACTER.
Like literacy mission,Moral education/Value should be made mandatory!
Sooner we implement is better, so that there will be future to coming generation.

Dear Students, you people are repeating same act which is in practice since olden days. Here public show off is not required. First of all need unity among you people. Today you are protesting, tomorrow you are forgetting. Earlier also so many incidents of this kind we witnessed. But you know only protest on roadside, nothing more than that. Listen what to do... Rape and death of Sowjanya should be lesson a for all female students. Every month all female students of college and school should meet and discuss their problems which is related to thier education and safety. All the girls students should disclose all the problems which is they are facing by male students or by outsiders in the meeting and take decision to complain to school management and Police station. Schools or colleges should not allow any outsiders to park their vehicles around the 500 meters of the schools or colleges. Girls also should think 100 times before developing friendship with anyone. Wake up Girls.

After every culprit act there is a day protest. Rather this, protest implementation of strict and open law and order in front of chamber of higher authority. Nowadays our PM is in good mood to approve every single request.

Be it Soujanya or Padmapriya every region has it's own sorry story to tell in case of women. This issue of exploitation of women has to be tackled on a war footing cutting across party , caste lines and what have you. I am not sure whether many have seen or heard the most outrageous statement by a Haryana Minister today saying that in more than '90% rapes are invited on
by women themselves'! He has been issued a show cause notice by his party for that!
The mindset has to change you see-
Just protesting , attempting to draw mileage, giving ridiculous statements etc is not going to help the situation either.

dear students this one day protest will not help the cause. beacuse our law & order enforcing body is dum, deff & blind. you have to keep pressurising the system until it come up with the criminals. otherwise tomorrow everybody will forget this incident and after a month or same incident will happen in some other corner. Hope police will act quickly in nabing criminal and judiciary work sensibaly.
