Kundapur: Deepika Shetty Elected TP President, Hemavathi Poojary V-P

Kundapur, Oct 13: Deepika Shetty from Bellva constituency has been elected as the president and Hemavathi Poojary from Halliholle constituency has been elected as the vice president of Kundapur taluk panchayat.

BJP succeeded in maintaining its hold over the post of president and vice-president of Kundapur taluk panchayat in the second term.

BJP consists of 22 members out of the total 35 members in Kundapur taluk panchayat.

In the Kundapur taluk panchayat election, the quota was reserved for women of general category for the post of president while the vice-president post was reserved for backward class A category.

For the post of president, Deepika Shetty contested from BJP while Lalitha Shetty and Jayalakshmi Rao contested from Congress. For the post of vice-president, Hemavathi Poojary and Chandravathi Kottary from BJP and Savithri Alvagadhe submitted nominations. Later, Lalitha Shetty and Chandravathi Kottary withdrew.

Deepika Shetty obtained the votes of 19 members while Jayalakshmi Rao received 11 votes. Hence, Deepika was elected president with majority votes.

For the post of vice president, Hemavathi Poojary got 19 votes while Savithri Alvagadhe received 11 votes.

In Kundapur taluk panchayat, out of the total 35 members, 22 are from BJP, 12 from Congress and one from CPM.

In first term, Belladi Shankar Shetty was elected as the president and Jyothi Naik from Congress was elected as vice-president of Kundapur taluk panchayat.

The election was conducted by Kundapur assistant election commissioner Sadhashiva Prabhu, taluk panchayat CEO Gopal Shetty, Thashildhar Raju Mogaveera.

After the election, district BJP president Udaya Kumar Shetty, BJP leader Ravi Ameen, Kundapur constituency BJP president Kishor Kumar, Byndoor constituency, BJP president Pranayakumar Shetty, Manigopal, president of Kundapur town development authority, ZP member Hadhur Rajeev Shetty, ZP former member Halladi Tharanath and members of taluk panchayat and town municipal members congratulated the winners.
