Mangalore: M M Miran, Ganapathi Shipayi Honoured at Konkani Samvedana

Mangalore, Oct 13: 'Konkani Samvedana' a Konkani meet was organized by Karnataka Konkani Sahitya Academy at Lalbagh here on Saturday October 13.

M Raghunath Shet, president of Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Karnataka was the chief guest and Kasargod Chinna, president of the Academy presided over the programme.

M M Miran, Konkani Navayutha community head, Ganapathi Shipayi, Konkani Kharvi community head, Concepta Alva, programme director at Akashvani, Madikeri, Mangesh Shenoy, music artist, Devdas Pai, registrar shared the dais.

Addressing the gathering, Raghunath Shet appreciated Academy for its works. "The present status of Konkani language and culture is mainly due to the efforts made by our forefathers. Now it is our duty to take it forward," he added.

Speaking on the importance of language, he said a person will have more scope for growth if he is familiar with many languages.

"After the recognition of Konkani in the eighth schedule of the Constitution, more number of programmes have been conducted aimed at preserving and promoting the language. May Konkani continue to grow," he said.

Kasargod Chinna in his presidential address lauded the contributions of Mangesh Shenoy, M M Miran and Ganapathi Shipayi. "It is a privilege to be with them today and honour them," he added.

He said that the Academy will be organizing Konkani Mahotsav from October 22 to 25 with various cultural programmes. The first day, on October 22, there will be Janapad celebration, on October 23 programmes by women, October 24 by college students and on October 25 there will be a musical nite performed by prominent artists like Eric Ozario and many others, he informed.

On the occasion, the Academy honoured M M Miran and Ganapathi Shipayi for their immense contribution to promoting Konkani.

As part of the entertainment, Mangesh Shenoy and his group performed.

Roy Castelino welcomed the gathering, Chidanand Bhandary compered and Mahesh Nayak proposed the vote of thanks.

Damodar Prabhu, Chidanand Kamath, Ashok Shet, Om Ganesh among others were present.
