Mangalore: New Committee of Konkani Writers' Forum Takes Charge

Mangalore, Oct 15: The installation ceremony of the office-bearers of Konkani Writers' Forum was held at St Aloysius College auditorium here on Sunday October 14.

Vally Vagga, Konkani Kutam-Bahrain Award winner presided over the function and Fr Vijay Victor Lobo, director of Sandesh Prathishtan was the chief guest.

Henry Mendonca, newly-elected president, Maccha Milar, secretary, Pinto Vamanjoor, secretary and Paul Moras, former president of the forum shared the dais.

The election of Konkani Writers' Forum was held recently during the annual general meeting where Henry Mendonca was unanimously elected the president for the year 2012-2014.

Irine Rebello as vice-president, Maccha Milar as secretary, Pinto Vamanjoor as treasurer, Tony Feros as joint secretary were the other elected members.

The executive committee consists of Edwin JF D’Souza, Steven Quadras, Vincent Alva, Violet Pereira and Ron Roch Cascia.

The oath-taking ceremony was led by Fr Vijay Victor Lobo.

Fr Victor in his address said, "This is a proud moment as Konkani writers have gathered together here. A poet/writer writes with his feelings, deep thinking and is responsible for giving direction to the society."

Highlighting the kind of writings published these days, he said there are more of negative thoughts in them which have a bad impact on the young generation. "To instill good behaviour among the youth, there is a dire need for good writings," he added, urging the writers to write in a way that can have postive impact on readers.

In his presidential address, Vally Vagga congratulated the new office-bearers. He briefed on the prime features of a writer’s personality and his responsibility. He said a writer should give importance to his mother tongue, society, family, religion, which is the key to success.

On the occasion, he recalled the immense contribution of veteran writers to Konkani literature, and urged the writers to give their best to promoting Konkani literature.

"Unity is strength, transparency is our religion - this should be the motto of all association members. This will lead to growth," said Henry Mendonca.

He praised the works undertaken by the association under the leadership of Paul Moras.

On the occasion, the Konkani Writers' Forum honored Paul Moras, former president, Herolpius, 2012 Daiji Dubai Award winner and Vally Vagga for their contributions.

As part of the programme, a literary interaction was conducted with many writers participating.

Paul Moras welcomed the gathering Maccha Milar proposed the vote of thanks.

Basti Vaman Shenoy, president of Konkani Bhas Ani Sanskriti Pratistana, Venkatesh Nayak, Guru Baliga among others were present.
