Udupi, Oct 15: The litterateur Ambatanaya Mudradi urged the Karnataka Bayalata Academy to take the art Yakshagana into other parts of the state.

Speaking after inaugurating “Havyasi Yakshagana Ranghabhoomi: Sangatya Soundarya” organized by Yakshagana Bayalata Academy, Bangalore and Yakshagana Kendra, he said that there is a need for popularizing the art in other parts of the state as Yakshagana is only played in coastal districts and some areas of Shimoga and Chikmagalur.

“Yakshagana is one art that has undergone lots of experimentation unlike other arts. Art should not be for entertainment and fun alone, it should also contribute for intellectual growth”, he added.

Speaking on the occasion, Karnataka Yakshagana Bayalata Academy president professor M L Samaga said that there is a need for academic thinking of Yakshagana.

He stressed that the government should support art and the artists. Yakshagana artists should be in a position to react to the queries concerning various aspects of Yakshagana.” Workshops should be organised and discussions should be held”, he emphasised.
