Jethmalani wants BJP to Project Modi as PM Candidate

New Delhi, Oct 17 (PTI): Stirring the hornet's nest in BJP, Ram Jethmalani has strongly pitched for projecting Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate in the next Lok Sabha elections.

In a letter to BJP President Nitin Gadkari, he said the party must declare its prime ministerial candidate to help convince the voters in its pre-2014 election campaign.
"I do not think that the choice is difficult...I would want Narendra Modi whose integrity and administrative ability are not in doubt," Jethamalani, a Rajya Sabha member, said in his two-page letter.

The party, which has kept the issue of Prime Ministerial candidate in the backburner with several contenders on the scene, got the letter from Jethmalani who said he wanted to attend the recent Surajkund meeting of the national executive to which he was not invited.

Speaking in favour of Modi, he said, "He has been a victim of diabolic propaganda directed to projecting him as an anti-minority bigot. This undeserved black spot is easy to erase. Every aspiring candidate should do some sincere introspection and discover his own disqualifications."

Referring to minorities, he said, they must be given complete assurance of security and opportunities for becomming prosperous and progressive.

"All past wrongs must be forgiven and forgotten. This requires projecting those who have earned the respect and confidence of the minorities," Jethmalani said.
When asked whether Gadkari was also in the race for Prime Ministership, he said, "I personally think that I will prefer Modi."

Jethmalani said Modi was "head and shoulders above many people in terms of integrity, in terms of efficiency."
He went on to say that not just declaring the Prime Ministerial candidate, the party must also form a "shadow cabinet" in advance.

"In fact a shadow cabinet must be projected with a clear pledge that one third of our cabinet will be non-party experts in their individual fields with impeccable reputation for integrity and intellectual ability. It is for such people that Rajya Sabha is primarily meant.

"It may cause heart burning to the diappointed ones but it is better to face it rather than leave the voters in uncertaintly," Jethamalani said.

Stating that the BJP's election campaign in the next two years will be to highlight the ruling party's corruption which will be the main vote earner, he cautioned the BJP leaders to be above board.

"It is absolutely imperative that our leaders and candidates must have no skeletons in their cupboards," he said.

The lawyer-turned-politician said "We owe to our voters a correct exposition of our brand of secularism. Every religious belief, practice or expression is subject to the paramount needs of the Republic and its value system of public health morality and order."

Taking up the issue of black money, he said, "credible rumours are circulating that some of our aspiring leaders have announced 'black money is no issue' and our spokesmen are under instructions not to emphasis this matter in public."

Rathnakar Shirva...you are either ignorant of Constitution of India or supporter of Kesari Parivar. There are established norms and rules in the judiciary.Putting Kasab to gallows not in the hands of Congress or any party. There is a judicial process which will take it's own course.FYI, India is not a lawless BANANA REPUBLIC.When election comes BJP and like minded people(YOU)use Kasab's name. They(BJP) misleading the public.A dreaded terrorist was released from jail and escorted by then BJP FM minister(JASAWANTH SINGH) to Afagan AIRPORT(KANDAHAR)!!!Then you had no problem my friend!!!On the other hand UPA Govt Killed all terrorists except KASAB(to get more information)who attacked Mumbai!!I think you are convinced.

I totally agree with Mr. Ismail P. Mr. Jetmalani is a person without any principle. But I am sure that Mr. Modi is the most suitable person for PM post. It is funny that Mr. Ismail is having objection about Mr. Jethmalani defending terrorists, but having no problem with Congress party which is feeding terrorists (Kasab & afsal guru) even after SC granting death penalty to them. So like Jethmalani we have one more (Ismail)person without any principle.

Like I said Before, for Modi to become PM candidate, Congress, sonia or Rahul is not a compitition at all. Only BJP & NDA can defeat Modi's PM candidature not opposition. Am sure BSE index may shoot up if Modi is named as PM candidate just assuring investors their returns.

Mr Jethmalani, please note that your personal preference cannot be above national interest. However progressive he is and whatever amount of administrative ability Modi has it cannot be an excuse or it cannot wipe out his bloody history.

Jethmalani says "It is absolutely imperative that our leaders and candidates must have no skeletons in their cupboards," he said.

But Modi has about 2,000 skeletons of innocent muslims in his cupboard. How can he be eligible as a prime ministerial candidate?

WE THOUGHT JETHMALANI WAS A MATURED PERSONALITY BUT HE IS NOT. IF HE WAS A LITTLE SENSIBLE THERE WAS NO WAY HE COULD SUPPORT AND PROJECT A MASS MURDERER OF INNOCENT MUSLIMS AS A POTENTIAL PRIME MINISTER OF SECULAR INDIA.

I honestly doubt about the sincerity of Jethmalani. Would jethmalani forgive Modi if his wife, daughter, sister or any kith was assaulted during post Godhra carnage like those poor pregnant women whose abdomen was slit and the child in the womb was pierced with the trishul when Modi lifted no finger to reach out to the plight of those burnt alive, cut alive for no fault of theirs?
Even today Modi never uttered a word of apology for his indifference to the plight of the minority during his rule. What more can we expect from this blood thirty, power crazy man? If Modi becomes a PM I wonder about the plight of the minority .......
