Kasargod, Oct 19: A man has been arrested in connection with robbing valuables of a bus owner in the city.
The arrested has been identified as Joseph Chacko (61), resident of Alapuzha.
The incident took place on November 26, 2011. The accused grew friendly with a bus owner named P N Balakrishnan (51), resident of Panayal Kottekkal, in a bar near the beach road in the city. It is learnt that the accused added chloroform to the drinks of the victim and then fled with a chain weighing eight sovereigns, two finger rings and cash of Rs 50,000.
Balakrishnan lodged a complaint in this regard. The CCTV footages captured in the bar were sent to various police stations. The accused went absconding after committing such crimes in Malappuram, Valancherry, Kunnamkulam and Kozhikode.
He sold the jewels to a jeweller in Kannur. Around ten sovereigns of gold sold by him have been recovered by the police.
Police sources confirmed that the accused has been involved in more than ten such cases in the state.
Joseph has acted in few films and serials and is well known for his roles.
He has acted in movies such as Babychan, Sundara Kiladi, Thacchiledath Chundan, Lalsalam and serials like Kudumbavilakku, Swathi Thuirunaal, Arabbikadalinde Rani and others.
He has also acted in three Tamil movies, said the police sources.
