Mangalore: `Carvalho Ghorannem-TSKK' Kalakar Puraskar to Norbert Gonsalves

Mangalore, Oct 20: Mandd Sobhann Committee has chosen Norbert Gonsalves, for ‘Carvalho Ghorannem - Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr – Mandd Sobhann’ eighth Kalakar Puraskar, for his unique contribution to Konkani music.

In a world that is dominated by the sound of electronic instruments, Norbert Gonsalves is the last recognized instrumentalist who plays the ‘Moroccos’, ‘Tamki’, ‘Taal’, ‘Kott’ttiyo’, ‘Painzannam’, ‘Khinnkule’, and other sweet sounding small instruments.

The award consists of a cash prize of Rs 25,000, a citation, a trophy and public honour.

The award will be presented by Hemacharya, Editor-in-chief of Daijiworld Weekly – himself a good actor and director of plays; at Kalaangann on November 4, 2012 at 6 pm, during the 131st monthly theatre.

Swarashree Troupe from Goa consisting of 22 artistes will present a music performance titled ‘Geet Mandovi Zuvarichem’.

All are welcome. There will be no entry fee.
