Muscat : MCCP Steps into Glorious 21st Year

Mucsta, Oct 21: The Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish ( MCCP – Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi ) staged a beautiful and entertaining program to mark the commencement of its 21st year of existence in Oman which was held at Sts. Peter and Paul Church Ruwi Main hall on Friday, 19th October 2012.

The program commenced with a high mass in Konkani at 10.30 am by Rev. Fr. Wilson Rumao, spiritual director of the Konkani Community of Sts. Peter and Paul Church – Ruwi and advisor of the Mangalorean Catholic Centre of the Parish.  The readings of the mass were done by Jean Lobo, Lanville Sequeira, Fiona Castelino, Jonas Pais and Fredrick Castelino. The Konkani Choir lead by Apolinaris D Souza and comprising the well known singers of the community, Dolphy Vaz, Valerian Peris, Lancy Sequiera, Ronald Lobo, Vivian Fernandes, Oswald D’Souza, Peter D’Souza, Stanislaus D’Souza, Jovita Sequeira, Flavy Castelino, Flavy D’Souza, Jessie Serrao, Nirmala Goveas, Victoria Soares, Anitha Lobo and Prescilla Menezes,  sang  beautiful and spirit filled hymns to inspire the faithful. Young and talented musician Larissa Rego provided music to the choir.












































The cultural program commenced with a welcome note by Dilip Correa, an ebullient toastmaster, Konkani activist and writer who was the emcee of the program.  MCCP Anthem titled Parameshawara, composed by Oswald D Souza and Walter Monterio was presented by the community singers. Dilip Correa then presented a brief profile of Lawrence Alva, the current President of MCCP and invited him to the dais.

Lawrence Alva, hailing from Moodubelle Parish, is a professional in the management of Education and Training.  His entire career span of 28 years has been built in and around human development organizations right from vocational training to management training.   Currently he is the CEO of National Training Institute, the largest premier training institute in Oman. He has a God gifted nature of blending with people of all age groups& different cultures.   Well organized, disciplined and focused in his work; leads the team by example to deliver desired results.

 MCCP has dedicated the year 2012 – 2013 to the youth and a new annual theme  Yuvajonn : Amchem Bol Amcho Fudar (Youth : Our Strength Our Future) and the logo were unveiled by Fr. Wilson Rumeo and Francis Sequeira.  Youth logo competition winner name was then announced by Sonia Martis.   Craig Lazarus was the winner of the competition and he was felicitated along with other participants of the Logo Competition.

 Sherwin D Silva, son of Samuel Sharmila D Silva and Sonalika Nazareth, daughter of Vinay Sunitha Nazareth were the youth comperes for the entertainment presented by youth and children. They were introduced by Dilip Correa.  Both, Sherwin and Sonalika, did a fantastic presentation in English and Konkani.

 Tharnatponn (Youth), a Konkani song composed by ace composer of the Konkani music Apolinaris D Souza was presented by the youth of the community. They also sang a masterpiece song of Late Michael Jackson, titled  Man in the Mirror Song. The participated youth were Ericsson Gonsalves, Jayal Tharakan, Jyothsna Tharakan, Jonas Pais, Dean Fernandes, Fiola Castelino, Fiona Castelino,  Craig Lazarus,  Caroline D'Souza, Saurav Rebello, Alston Moras,  Janice and Melanie Crasta

A scintillating Youth Dance - Locking, Popping and Korean styles was performed by Ericsson Gonsalves,  Jayal Tharakan, Jyothsna Tharakan, Jonas Pais, Dean, Fernandes and Melanie Crasta

The Children of Ruwi Parish presented a Fusion Dance - (Choreographed by Melanie Crasta) and the participants in this dance were Adventina Rodrigues, Joylyn Pinto, Ashwitha Arahna, Auraltina Rodrigues, Johan Pinto, Joshua Joseph,  Aaron Crasta, Venessa Rego, Venessa Martis, Pearl Menezes, Phiyola D'souza, Melita Rodrigues, Rishitha Picado, Elvita Gonsalves and Lara Mendonca

The talented children of Holy Spirit Church Ghala performed a dance which was choreographed by Sylvester Vaz. The participants in this dance were Liza D'Sa, Stacy Vaz, Melina Goveas, Chelsia D'Sa,  Seia Furtado and Meurel DSouza
The meritorious children of MCCP honoring ceremony was conducted by Lovelin Rego  and the winners were Standard X - Brantin Noronha - 95%,  Joash Dilan Saldanha -  95%, Larissa Chrystal Rego - 95% and DAVINA DAVID FERNANDES    - 90%,    Rahul Vas - 87.40%, Vivian Nehal Monis - 85.50%,  and Standard 12 - NIKITA RICHELLE MENDONCA – 95%, JANICE PRIYA MASCARENHAS – 94%, AMANDA LAVITA LOBO -  92%,  ROVINA. N. DSOUZA -  91.2%, NISHA PEARL PERIERA - 91.5%, MS. FREYA GENSIS DMELLO -  91%, MS. Youth of Ghala Parish presented a hilarious skit Pokri Pedru and the actors were Peter Ghantalkatte, Salu, Edward Mendonca and Nirmala Goveas which was directed by Walter Mendonca.  Kesarattisi Interview - Skit by Muscat Youth (Written & Directed by Walter Mendonca) was presented by Shailesh Sequeira, Lloyd Sequeira and
Lynel Lobo

Vote of Thanks was proposed by Ajith Walder.  On behalf of the Executive Committee Dolphy Frank offered an invitation for lunch and Alston Moras offered prayer before meal.  A traditional lunch with Dukra Maas and Chicken curry which was prepared by Alwyn Saldanha – Al Arsalan Udupi Restaurant was served.
