Mangalore, Oct 24: The aura and grandeur of Mangalore Dasara once again came alive as a grand procession was taken through the city streets amidst lacs of devotees, beating of drums and chants of unbound joy.

The festivities began with a puja at Kudroli Gokarnanatheshwara Temple at 4.30 pm. The Ganesh idol was taken out first followed by the idols of Navadurga. The idol of Sharada was brought out next.

Apart from the beautifully decorated idols, there were 70 tablaeux, each depicting Hindu culture, mythology, Tulunadu traditions and various temples.

The procession was flanked by huli vesha, Kerala chende, Kalladka bombe, Andhra kolata, dollu kunita and host of other cultural and folk depictions.

Being the centenary year of Kudroli Gokarnanatha Kshetra, the celebrations had an added charm and granduer. The entire city was decked in lights and wore a bridal look. Even stalls like toys and charmuri made brisk business.

Speaking to Daijiworld, NMPT trustee Kallige Taranath Shetty said that unlike Mysore and Madikeri Dasara, Mangalore Dasara is not sponsored by the government, but by Kudroli Gokarnanatha Kshetra.

He said that 18 lac bulbs have been used to light up the city for the special occasion. He gave the credit for the festivities to Temple's managing trustee Janardhan Poojary, who he said was the main architect of the event.

The procession will wound through Maryhill, Lalbagh, Ballalbagh, PVS, Navabharat Circle, K S Rao Road, Hampankatta and move towards Car Street and Alake. It will culminate at Kudroli Temple where the idols will be immersed in the morning.

Heavy security was deployed in the city, with policemen as well as home guards taking charge. Traffic restrictions were in place across the city.

Rohit Poojary, Mangaladevi/Mangalore please advise Mr Poojary to keep political parties away from the temple. The temple is for all the public and not to have political agenda. Let all the politician come to the temple as a common man and not representing any political party when they are inside the temple.

    First read the comments of
    Ram Hegde, Udupi
    RR, Kudla

Then point fingers to others. It was them who spoke about politics not me.

As far as 2006 Mumbai blast, 26/11 Mumbai attack is concerned first look at your Atal Bihari Vajpayee's government it as witnessed so many terrorist attacks in his short span of 5 years.

    Parliament attack
Plane Hijack & release of terrorist
    Akshardhamma Temple attacks etc etc

Congress atleast has courtesy and has asked its Home Minister Sri Shivraj Patel & Chief Minister of Maharashtra Sri Vilasrao Deshmukh to resign.

Why didn't then BJP Home Minister L. K. Advani & Gujurat Chief Minister Narendra Modi resigned.

Rohit Poojary, Mangaladevi/Mangalore well you should not have brought politics here as it was dussera celebrations. Anyways i have few questions to you what what about 2006 Mumbai blast, 26/11 Mumbai attack where you maharastra congi govt didnt take any action even after intelligence report. Again what about recent assam riots where you secular party congi is ruling there. I think you are only concerned about the things that happened during BJP rule.

Wow, Mangalore city looked awesome with lighting & glittering. It looked like Festive Season.
Also that it felt like Festival Season.
Unfortunate was Trafiic jams in the city and around, which put people to much inconvenience. Though guidance was published by Traffic Police, general public did have a major problem.
One point was from Jail road to Bijai, traffic was so bad that police had a tough time to manage and drivers had a tough time to drive as well..At times I wonder why our people donot co-operate with Traffic Police and adhere to rules. Would you do same thing if you were any where out of your city, where you would be fined for violating traffic rules?
I wish we learn some civic sense and co-operate with Traffic Police when it comes to seasons like this. After all Dasara comes once in a year..!!

What about BJP which came to power after raising the slogan of Sri Raam Mandir?

It came to power and completely forgot Sri Raam Mandir.

What about the bloodshed which took place in 1992 all over India & also in 2002 Gujurat riot after Innocent Hindu people thinking BJP will build Sri Raam Mandir were travelling back after returning back from some agitation conducted in Ayodhya in 2002.

BJP always gave false assurance to come to power, thus making OBC-SC-ST Hindu, Muslim Christian people suffer.

Sri B. Janardhan Poojary never gave false assurance. He has never became a cause of any bloodshed which would cost the OBC-SC-ST Hindu families, Muslim families, christian families their daily bread

BJP only speaks but never built the temple.

He has built the temple (renovated the temple) then he spoke.

You all people act as blind when so much bloodshed has happened between Hindu & Muslim brothers. It does not matter for you.
    You never criticize such things.

But when something auspicious celebration is peacefully happening in Mangalore through Mangalore Dasara taking Hindu, Muslim, Christians, Sikh etc into consideration you people start commenting.

I agree with many issues raised/views expressed by Sri Ram Hegde,Udupi about Sri janardhan Poojary.
Whther he should be allowed to contest from Mangalore in 2014 is purely Congrees partys internal matter. However it is clearly visible that the what ever Mr.Poojary does in Kudroli Temple is is mainly keeping in mind his political ambitions.I hope even a comman man agrees that the way how the Sonias visit was projected /conducted during dassers festival inaugaration is not proper.Except Congress VIPs not a single man from outside was a part of celebration .Making the temple "Congistan" is realy condemnable and never happened in any temples in DK/Udupi dist ever.

DONT JUST PREACH WHAT NARAYANGURU SAID " ONE CASTE ONE RELIGION ONE GOD " PRACTICE IT THAT WOULD BE SOMETHING COMENDABLE. It is time we stop dividing our society on the basis of caste or religion. We all are INDIANS so lets not splits our nation on such flimsy reasons.

Janardhan Poojary is nothing but a caste based politician who is very selfish. We saw the way he organised the Kudroli function in which Sonia Gandhi participated clearly he wants to gain politically out of it. He should retire from politics and take up only social causes IMPOSSIBLE for him to win in an election. As long as Poojary contests from mangalore congress will never ever come back to power in mangalore. Should he be allowed to contest in 2014 he would be heading towards his 5th DEFEAT in a row. Poojary accept people's verdict and let mangalore have a change you can no more represent mangalore in lok sabha try rajya sabha please do not let BJP win mangalore contituency again please Poojary. You are a very senior leader accomodate yourself in Rajya Sabha or As a Governor. And such cheap political tricks dont work nowadays maybe it would work 10 years back but not now.

SRI B. JANARDHAN POOJARY HAS BROUGHT BACK THE LOST GLORY OF POOJAARIES ALSO CALLED AS BILLAVAS WHICH WAS LOST DURING THE MEDIEVAL AGE DUE TO THE INVASION OF SOME OF THE SECTION OF THE HINDU SOCIETY.

POOJAARIES ALSO CALLED AS BILLAVAS ARE THE TRUE BRAHMINS OF TULUNAADU UPTO MEDIEVAL PERIOD. LATER DUE TO THE INVASION OF OTHER SECTION OF THE HINDU CLAIMING THEMSELVES AS TRUE BRAHMIN MIGRATED TO THE WESTERN COASTAL OF INDIA.

POOJARIES ALSO CALLED AS BILLAVAS HAD THEIR OWN WAY OF WORSHIPPING DURING ANCIENT PERIOD AS FOLLOWS:

    1. THOSE WHO PERFORM POOJAS AT TEMPLE (DHEVASTHAANA) WERE PURE VEG.
    2. THOSE WHO PERFORM POOJAS AT GARODI TEMPLE WERE ALSO PURE VEG.
    3. THOSE WHO PERFORM POOJAS AT DAIVASTHANA (BHOOTHA AARADHANE STHAANA LIKE KALUTI, PANJURLI, KORAGAJJA, GULIGA, SATHYA DEVATHE, RAKTHESHWARI, RAAHU, KORDHABBHU ETC) WERE PURE VEG OR THEY COULD BE NON-VEG.

ONLY DIFFERENCE BETWEEN OTHERS AND POOJAARIES IS OTHER COMMUNITY USED TO BE PURE VEG IRRESPECTIVE THEY PERFORM POOJAS OR NOT.

BUT IN POOJARY COMMUNITY THERE WERE NO SUCH KIND OF RESTRICTION, THOSE WHO WANT TO BE VEG THEY CAN BE VEG AND THOSE WHO WANT TO BE NON-VEG THEY CAN BE NON-VEG.

POOJAARY COMMUNITY NEVER IMPARTED ANY RULES AND REGULATION TO BE VEG OR NON-VEG TO THE OTHER MEMBERS OF THE POOJARY COMMUNITY.

THEREFORE COMMUNITIES OTHER THAN POOJAARIES ALSO HAD ENTRANCE TO WORSHIP PLACE WHICH WAS WORSHIPPED BY POOJAARIES WHETHER THEY WERE VEG OR NON-VEG.

THIS LIBERTY IN POOJAARY COMMUNITY MADE THE OTHER SECTOR TO TAKE ADVANTAGE & CRITICIZE BY SAYING THAT BECAUSE SOME OF THEM ATE NON-VEG IN POOJAARY COMMUNITY THEY CAN'T BE THE TRUE POOJAARIES TO DO POOJA'S. THIS BECAME THE MAIN REASON FOR THE POOJAARY TO LOOSE THEIR IDENTITY EVENTUALLY.

LATER THEY BECAME KSHATRIYA'S IN SOME OF THE KINGS DARBAR THUS THEY GOT THE NAME BILLAVAS (BILLU-BOW), SOME BECAME VAIDYAS WHICH IS CALLED AS BAIDYA IN TULU THUS THEY GOT THE NAME BAIDAS.

THEREFORE I WOULD KINDLY REQUEST ALL THE POOJAARIES TO SAFEGUARD THE LOST GLORYOFTULUNAADU
