Twin Districts Gear up to Celebrate Bakrid - Prayer Timings

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore/Udupi (VM)

Mangalore/Udupi, Oct 25: Muslims across the coastal areas and Malnad regions are gearing up to celebrate the festival of sacrifice, Eid-Ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid.

The festival will be celebrated on Friday October 26 in these regions, while the rest of the country will celebrate on Saturday October 27. Bakrid falls on the tenth day of Dhul Hijjah month as per the Islamic calendar.

On the day, goats, cows and camels are sacrificed by the well-to-do as a mark of gratitude to Allah and to honour the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismail, and the latter's obedience to Allah's will. Ibrahim's devotion to Allah was tested when he was instructed in his dream to sacrifice his most cherished possession, his Ismail. Both father and son willingly submitted to Allah's command, and pleased with their faith and obedience, Allah replaced Ismail with a ram at the last moment.

The meat of the sacrificed animal is divided into three parts, out of which one each is given to the poor and to relatives and friends, and third part is retained. The festival is celebrated with great joy by Muslims around the world. It also marks the month of Hajj.

As every year, arrangements have been made in prominent mosques and Idgahs for Eid prayers and Qutba.
