Mangalore Friends Celebrate Dasara with Splendid Event

Mangalore, Oct 25: Dasara festivities and the annual celebrations of ‘Mangalore Friends’ were organized at Lalbagh here on Wednesday October 24 in a grand manner.

MLA Krishna J Palemar inaugurated the event.

Addressing the gathering, Palemar extended his wishes for the festive season and lauded the efforts of Mangalore Friends in organizing such a programme, which he said had added extra charm to the Dasara festivities.

Rameshchandra, playback singer in Kannada movie industry, together with singer Prahlad and host of other personalities enthralled the crowd with some delightful numbers and dances. The atmophere was electrifying with a large crowd cheering the performers and literally dancing to their tunes. 

On the occasion B Ganapa (auto rickshaw driver), Ashok (social service) were felicitated for their distinct contribution to their respective fields. Sneha Deepa Organization too was feted for its work in spreading awareness on Aids.

Mayor Gulzar Banu, deputy mayor Amithakala, corporator Jayanand Anchan, Bhaskar Amtoor, president of ‘Mangalore Friends’ and its office bearers Sashidhar V, Naveen J, Santhosh D’Mello, Jagadhish Anchan, Manjunath D, Daijiworld photographer Dayanand Kukkaje, Sathish Ira and others were present.

‘Mangalore Friends’ club has been conducting social, spiritual and cultural activities in the city for the past four years. Through various fund raising programmes, the club has contributed Rs 4 lac to Aids patients. In addition, the club has given free stationery and  environment-friendly products like cloth bags.

Every year, the club invites renowned singers and artistes for ‘Dasara musical evening’ organized in front of MCC building. Mangalore Friends Club also provides platform to exhibit folk arts, rural sports, Yakshagana and Tulu plays.
