Mangalore, Oct 26: Communal clashes between two different groups led to violence in the sub jail in Mangalore on October 26.

As it was the eve of Bakrid, special food items including Biryani, were arranged for all the Muslim jail inmates inside the sub jail.

Other groups present raised a voice against the discrimination of food supply which in turn led to violence.

The groups began to throw stones and tiles at each other. Police security has been increased after the incident. Senior police officials have visited the spot and have assured that the situation has been brought under control.

Religion tells us to share everything including food It is surprising that the most united people in our country in thick and thin, today, are affected by communal violence, that too over sharing of food. There was a time when old dons were present on both sides that food was first served by them and shared between all cell mates and then only everyone would eat. After the dons have fled to Dubai and others have died, there is total indiscipline among these foolish morons...

How come our police department become so poor in controlling prisoners, so no difference out side and inside the prison, underworld operating there gang from inside the prison, without support of the police these things are never going to happen, so superiors should investigate the case properly and should take action.

In side the jail also classification ?wonderful **** It is the mistake of police authorities because when they arranged special food the should have given to everybody in jail and then this kind of discrimination will not come.special food or ordinary food
whatever it is, at the time of distribution, should have given equally to all and the only we can
    say we are secular..

    C. Sharath,
i think you are forgotten that at present still BJP is ruling the Karnataka including the Mangaore which part of it. The Jail authorities comes under your famous home minister R. Ashok and all budget to be approved for prison and ministry of interior goes perhaps 50% to his and other MLA/Ministers and bureaucratics funds....reminaing 50% out of which atleast another 25% goes to local police, jail authorities and BJP guys...so final they have to distribute only to a section (making a point to communal again) and to justify they have to serve the biriyani to only muslim prisoners simple....so dont just blame for others here!!JAI HO!!

I am quiet sure that this not a communal problem, but a corruption one!

I think it is normal parctice to celebrate all festivals even in Jail (Not sure though, I have not been there yet, & have no future plan -)...)But the jail authorities tried to make a an extra buck on the occasion of Eid!

Take funds from government for a festival celebration, prepare some food for the records sake, gulp down the rest!

No point blaming Congress or BJP, everyone of us is corrupt. All we can think of is misusing every resource that we come across... :(

No need to increase the police security. Provide all the inmates Biriyani problem solved! And it is much cheaper too.... Apply simple financial management!
If jail cant buy or are not afford, there are lot of people/committees ready to sponsor the same.

This incedent is the mirror reflection of our society.

This same "Biriyaani"(%Reservations, quota, subquota) politics was started by congress to appease its vote bank is the main sourse of communal problem in India. Two start a communal hatred you dont have to attack any one, just pick out two hungry people from the both communities, promise them to offer food & give food to only one. The other one will automtically Jump on the other and start a chain of events. Unfortunetly people do not realise these tricks of divide & rule by the politicians and fall into their trap. This same concept was further the source of foundation to the emerge of caste politics started by BJP as they stood by the other vote bank and started giving them Prasaada & in turn nurtured Rama sene & Dhooma sene.
This Biriyaani incedent what happend in Jail is just a sample simulation model of our great country on how to divide people by religious lines and rule them.

Prison environment is unique and therefore should be handled in an unique way. Inmates within the prison system develop an unique attitude of anger, temperament, hatred and vengeance because the life within the four walls of the prison leads the inmates to develop different moods and personalities that change virually on a daily basis.

Maintaining healthy and peaceful prison environment is as important as maintaining proper law and order so that prevailing security force is capable to manage the daily life of the prison.

The daily quarrels can flare up any time of the day, whether it is "Biryani" for Eid or "Paaysum" for Divali or "Kooswar" for Xmas. The prison authorities have to standardize their Rules and Regulations that satisfy all the inmates all the time of the year.

The "Volunteerism" is the key for maintaining smooth and stable prison system so that each and every inmate knows what they deserve and what they get within the four walls of their prison cells. Volunteers can ease the burden of the security staff a great deal by intervening with the inmates thru various plans and programs so that each and every inmate is aware of his or her entitlements.

We distinctly remember, one time, during the "Thanksgiving" feast in Texas we wanted to give grape fruits in season for the group of 60 inmates who were going thru the Toastmasters Leadership program. The permission to serve grape fruits for 60 inmates was only made possible provided we served grape fruits for all the 720 male inmates of the Prison unit so that there is no discrimination of any kind within the barbed wire system of the entire prison barricade. Besides, it was also clearly pointed out that gifted grape fruits need be consumed at one time and no fruits to be allowed to go to their bunk-beds in order to avoid any other kind of ideas that the inmates might develop from the collection of fruits.

All of the above are some of the precautions that become applicable in the jail.

Why should there be descrimination among jail inmates when it comes for food. May it be ID, Christmas or Diwali, if authorities are serving special food, that should be to all inmates. This policy is injustice to other inmates. Let us treat them as human beings first then as Jail Inmates or criminals. I wonder how many of them are victimised for some one else's fault also. So let us treat them with some Human Dignity, rather than hurting their sentiments by this kind of deeds.
Why waste police force for a violence lead because of Jail Authority Mistake / lapse.
    Jail authorities should be impartial..!!

Appetite and desire for sumptuous food is common for all human. It is wrong you serve good food being Eid to only one community while others are fed normal routine. But again, a fight for this silly matter was, however, unwarranted.

Hope the jail authorities arrange to prepare the tonight's dinner or tomorrow's lunch with all items including biriyani to all inmates to be fair with all prisoners.
