Mangalore: Jaya C Suvarna Bags Pingara Rajyotsava Award

Mangalore, Oct 27: President of Billawa Sangha Mumbai Jaya C Suvarna has been chosen to recieve 'Pingara Rajyotsava Award' this year, said Raymond D Cunha, editor-in-chief, Pingara weekly.

Addressing a press meet here on Saturday October 27, he said that the award will be presented at a function to be held at Town Hall on November 20.

"The selection was purely transparent, conducted by a selection committee which included Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Shree Esha Vittaldas Swamiji Kemaru, Roy Castelino, Harikrishna Punaroor, Fr William Menezes, Srikhar Prabhu, Rohan Monteiro, C G Pinto, Dr B G Suvarna, Elias Fernandes and Ramakrishna R," he added.

K Lakshminarayana Asranna, chief priest, Kateel Shree Durga Parameshwari Temple, will preside over the function.

The award will be presented by Bishop Aloysious Paul D’Souza.

K Abhayachandra Jain, Dr M Mohan Alva, V P Lobo and Srikar Prabhu will be the chief guests for the evening.

Jaya C Suvarna is the president of the Billawa Sangha Mumbai and senior director of Bharat Bank, of which he is also the former chaiman.

Born in Adve, Padubidri to Chandu Poojary and Achhu Poojarthi in 1946, he left to Mumbai after completing his primary education in Mangalore. Suvarna is married to Leelavathi and the couple is blessed with four sons.

He has been involved in social, religious and community related fields and has also worked hard for the welfare of the Billawa community and other castes and creeds. Suvarna is also the founder president of 'Billawara Maha Mandala', a confederation of over 180 Billawa organizations throughout the country.

Past recipients of the Award include journalist Kuntadi Dayanand Pai, Alva's Education Trust chairman Dr M Mohan Alva, Daijiworld editor-in-chief Walter Nandalike, Ryan International School MD Grace Pinto, Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Hegde, Mandd Sobhann and former president of Kannada Sahitya Parishat Harikrishna Punaroor.

Fr William Menezes, Roy Castelino, Harikrishna Punaroor and Mamatha J Rao were present at the press meet.
