Mangalore, Oct 28: The book 'Is Christianity a Flawless Religion' by Dr Michael Lobo, guest lecturer, post graduate department of mathematics, St Aloysius College, was released at the College auditorium here on Sunday October 28, in a ceremony that witnessed interesting debates on the subject of Christianity.

The book was released by Fr Ronnie Prabhu, director of the public relations office, Karntaka Region Catholic Bishop's Council.

Giselle Mehta, author and former bureaucrat was the guest of honour. Addressing the gathering, she said that religion was 'a disciplinary took for social and political control'.

"The book is a quality output from Dr Michael Lobo and as equal as earlier works which were encyclopediac and volumnious. But this is a slimmer volume with much significance. It touches upon various contradictions of Christitanity bringing forth scientific speculations," she said.

Drawing comparisons with the media that interpret a news in different ways, she said that religious interpretations differ from people to people according to their understanding of Christianity.

Andrew Lobo, advocate in the high court of Karnataka, said that this book was neither irreligious nor irrelevant, but a catalyst for reasoning and dialogue. "The books plays the role of devil's advocate," he said, adding that in these modern days of knowledge, such doubts as raised by the book are inevitable.

Fr Ronnie Prabhu in his address said, "We must question our faith but the questioning should be as an insider and not as outsider - where insider means to understand, while as outsider is to prove someone as wrong."

He further added, "Faith is not just intellect but has to emanate from the heart. When you reason with your heart you will always find explanations to all the questions.

"Living your faith is like a relationship - there are quarrels and questions, but these are only passing flaws," he said.

On his opinion of the book, he said, "I agree with everything what Michael denies of Christianity but I disagree with what he implies," he added.

He said that in a church, there are people from all walks of life, both intellectuals and those with lesser and simpler understanding of life. Hence, it is a priest's duty to give his sermon in a way that is understood by all. The intellectuals will question, he said, adding that the book has given scope for a healthy debate on religion.

Introducing the book, Dr Michael Lobo said that it is a critical analysis of Christianity and is controversial in nature. It raises questions like 'we pray, but often our prayers go unanswered; 'it is said that God knows what is best for us, but then why do we pray?'

"The book is open to scientific reasoning," Dr Lobo added. He also proposed the vote of thanks.

Doris Menezes, retired headmistress of St Victor's High School, Puttur, in her opinion of the book urged to bring back Christ and humanity into Christianity. She also commended Dr Michael Lobo for openly expressing doubts that so far no one had dared to speak of.

Fr Swebert D'Silva, principal of St Aloysius College welcomed the gathering.

This is the first step in right direction, Hope that Mangalore Diocese takes lead in overdue audit of faith and belief. If we do not audit, errors are likely to go un-noticed and others may take advantage of those errors. Christianity has flaws as it has been institutionalised in such a manner as to satisfy the needs of some greedy managers. But, JESUS and his teachings are flawless. Let us trace his steps to build a flawless CHURCH of humility, simplicity, SERVICE, integrity, and HIS HOLINESS, to richly deserve FATHER'S FAVOURS

You cannot brush aside just saying arguing & denials. I have quoted from the scriptures as evidence & we have the originals preserved as on date without destroying or burning. Infact no book on earth was preserved like we Christians have preserved. It was not by our might but through the power of Almighty God. Even the Jews will not destroy or burn holy books or fragments instead they keep in safe places, if worn out continuous reading they keep in some safe places.

During the time of Jesus Roman emperors were ruling & they were so strong, heavy & they had all the opportunity to destroy any book whichever they do not like instead they also did not burn or destroy. Praise be to God.

Certainly no book fell down from heaven. Did I specify anywhere in this blog or any other news articles that the Holy Bible fell down from heaven?! Show me if you find evidence of my comments. All the books were written on earth. Concerning the Holy Bible ref 1 THESSALONIANS 1:5

In fact Jesus Christ was in heaven & came down from heaven, born miraculously lived a life like a perfect man without sinning I quote from the Holy Bible Solomon after building the temple of God he prays to God 2 CHRONICLES 6: 36. IF THEY SIN AGAINST THEE, (FOR THERE IS NO MAN WHICH SINNETH NOT,). ONLY JESUS AS A HUMAN WAS SINLESS AND FAULTLESS (John 8:46). All the prophets were sinners and transgressed the commandment of God & asked forgiveness from God.
Jesus never asked forgiveness from Heavenly Father not even once and no human can show me Jesus asked forgiveness from the Holy Bible.

No human on earth denies Jesus had done wrong even the Atheists believe that Jesus was a perfect human preached non-violence. He had sufficient peace & gave us peace because he was the Prince of peace. Jesus called us friends & not slaves or servants. John 8:35

In the old days the writings in the Bible was thrust upon the community whether right or wrong. The community was forced to believe whatever version the Priest preached.Even at the Sunday sermon the Priest would preach what he wanted out of the community. But today with the community being educated, they can understand, read and think for themselves. The community are not cattle anymore !

It is very interesting to see the debate between those who know scriptures and those who live it.

I base my Christianity based on those to live the gospels. Humility, kindness and love are its hallmarks. Mr Theresa taught us that in ample measure in recent times.

While it is interesting to get into the technicalities of any religion, in the end it is just an academic exercise. The tribal living in the forest who cannot read and has never learnt anything about any God but shares the little he has with his fellow community can teach us all the civilized people a lot more about God than mere intellectual  exercises. That was Christs message, remember Christ never chose the Pharisees who where Brahmins of his time to be his disciples, he chose fishermen who where considered to be the lowly and lacking.

    4) Jesus says I am the resurrection and life. I quote: John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: Jesus was resurrected and appeared to desciples in a bodily form. Christ being the first fruit from the dead. For your kind information I quote Mark 15:46. And he bought fine linen, and took him down, and wrapped him in the linen, and laid him in a sepulchre which was hewn out of a rock, and rolled a stone unto the door of the sepulchre. Unquote. The dead body of Jesus Christ was taken down and as per the customs of Jews Jesus was laid to rest that too in a new tomb and a large stone was rolled to cover the door of the tomb.
Now tell me whose body was that laid to rest. Can you tell me whose body was that neither your god couldn’t revel whose body was that. It is just a deception from your book which cannot be believed truthfully.

I quote: HEBREWS AND REVELATION WERE DISCARDED AND LATER ADDED.
ACOCRYPA WAS PART OF KJV FROM 1611 to 1885 AND THEN REMOVED.
VERSUS EXPLAINING THE TRINITY ( 2 John) WOMAN CAUGHT IN ADULTRY ARE NOT PART OF ORIGINAL TEXT,
I quote MARK 16:19,20 IS NOT PART OF BIBLE. Unquote.

    1) Nothing has been discarded nor added . For argument sake See your own fallacy and deception. How the book of Hebrews and revelation were discarded and later added????!!! From where they added???!!! The truth is there was and is originals preserved in the original form unto this day.
    2) Was not apocrypha preserved by the church authorities???!!! Did they burnt? Never. The manuscripts are still there why the KJV has not taken in to consideration because those were fables from men and those fables/stories cannot be considered as word from God. You may be knowing when saddam Husain was captured by the American forces whole of the Middle East unbelieved for three days. Later the media has shown him captured then only they believed.
    3) Concerning to the word trinity, it is not there in the Whole of the Holy Bible. The three, God the father, the word, and the spirit are continuously available in the whole of the Holy Bible. Two examples I wanted to quote from the Holy Bible Isaiah 48:16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this I have not spoken in secret from the beginning from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. Matthew 28:19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Unquote. Now for the argument sake I wanted to question you why your book is criticizing the word trinity which is not at all in the whole of the Holy Bible. Was your god unknown of the three accurately? In fact, God the father, mother Mary and Jesus are not the trinity believed by Christians beginning from now.

First of all will please revel your full correct name?
If you cannot revel here in daijiworld come to my email josegregon@hotmail.com if you are a Muslim I have questions for you from your own book.
I quote yours: Refrain from false statement???!!! How could you find false statement quoting from the scriptures of the Holy Bible?
Before I am writing I know what commentators will comment. Hence I quoted from the Holy Bible:
MY PEOPLE PERRISH BECAUSE OF LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. HOSEA 4:6
    .
I quote: NOT MATHEW, NOR MARK NOR LUKE NOR JOHN Unquote.
Do not fall prey to such deviant, brainwashing deceivers whom they themselves have no Original scriptures. You are quoting from YouTube and I have seen and heard of this which were all refuted by Christian eminent scholars and apologists and bears no truth.
I quote once again who wrote the gospels: 1 THESSALONIANS 1:5 FOR OUR GOSPEL CAME TO YOU NOT ONLY IN WORD, BUT ALSO IN POWER AND IN THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WITH FULL CONVICTION.”
Can men write such a detailed truthful with scientific knowledge with ones own knowledge. Certainly impossible. With God everything is possible and he has given us the Holy Spirit to abide with us always. Once the Holy Spirit is taken out from this world then will start tribulations on this earth. The science is discovering truth of the gospel now and then?
We have the originals written in three ancient languages such as Aramaic, Hebrew and Greek. Gospels were written Greek language except Matthew was written in Hebrew and later in to Greek. Matthew and John were the disciples. John wrote the revelations in the Patmos island Ref. Revelations to John 1:2-9

This debate and critical examination of Christianity by intellectuals & critics will go on, but the truth of the existence of Jesus Christ, our living LORD & SAVIOUR cannot be denied. Those who know JESUS personally by being born again, and not nominal Christians, enjoy HIS everloving presence, healing in times of sickness and untold blessings every moment of their life, for HE is a True Friend indeed. When we exercise our faith believing on HIM wholeheartedly, HE waits with open arms to welcome all those who seek HIM with a clean heart and open mind. When one of HIS disciples Thomas doubted about HIS resurrection, JESUS appeared once again to HIS disciples in the presence of Thomas and tells him “Thomas, because you have seen me, you have believed, blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.” John : 21 – 29. A visit to the Holy Land further confirms our faith in the birth, death & resurrection of JESUS CHRIST, the Son of God. Jesus also advised HIS disciples to love one another and to keep HIS commandments so that the world may know they belong to HIM.

Christianity was flawless as long as its followers strictly adhered to the teachings of the Bible, the inspired Word of God. The disciples of Christ and early Christians truly followed the Bible when the people were united under one faith and there were no denominations or sects. Later from the 4th century onwards, when the faith spread far and wide, slowly local customs and traditions, especially those of Rome and Greece, coupled with their ancient beliefs got inducted into true Christianity. Thus the true faith got polluted with flaws against which the Apostle Paul had forewarned of mixing new with the old.

Today even secular scientists have recognised the Holy Bible as a book of logic. It has been ascertained that the Bible is in harmony with natural science and secular history. If according to science plants and animals came into existence before man, so also the Bible says God created man after creating plants and other living creatures. Ancient prophets like Jeremiah and Job were not scientists, yet they have mentioned scientific facts like "the earth hangeth upon nothing" which means the earth is in space without any support from above or underneath water evaporates and returns to earth in the form of rain and God dwells upon "the circle of the earth" which means the earth is round or spherical in shape while the ancient Greeks and Romans held different superstitious beliefs about earth and nature. Such scientific facts were discovered by European scientists more than two thousand years later. So a faith guided by such a Book is obviously expected to be free of any flaws. The flaws that we find today were brought into the faith by men claiming to be leaders and learned intellectuals.

    Dear all,
Feel good about the healthy debate at the opening of the book as well as in these cooments. Thanks to Daijiworld's foresight. Having studied as many relegions and their practices in as amny as seven countries, I am of the openion that none of the religions are perfect and so is my professed Catholic Christian Faith. It does not mean Gospel was wrong. Gospel was good news, is good news and wil be good news till the ends of the earth for millions (and to all people). Our father of the nation also found so but not in our living of our gospel message. Hence, I would call upon all Maha Atma's out there to practice love, joy, peace, forgiveness, mercy etc. To those whom more is given more will be taken (from them). So, Christ-in-us people please show the way by being lights unto others and salt to the earth (aka Mother Theresa). Do not just debate and quarrel over the issue. Why am I Christian?? The answer is- There is nothing else that is better. I will cling to the best I can have.

Jerommes Bible commentary is really useful to study the Bible. Daily reading of Bible and meditation even for a brief while changes sick body's and minds into healthy one's through conversion of the person/ change of lifestyle and understanding of virtues. People perish for lack of knowledge. Hope all those who have read Dr.Lobos book will get curious to understand the Bible (book) better and give head to ST.John's and Jesus' call to conversion whenever/wherever required. God Bless ALL.

I’ve not really read this book, but have read quite a few other books/articles on the subject, ‘Why I’m not a Christian’ by Bertrand Russell, an agnostic, is noteworthy here. Obama says in his ‘Audacity of hope’ that “By definition, faith and reason operate in different domains and involve different paths to discerning truth.” Therefore it’s always better to keep faith and reason in separate compartments. As for flawlessness or perfection, no man made institution can be flawless, perfection is just a mirage and we humans can only strive to march towards perfection without ever truly attaining it.

    Dear Mr. A.PRABHU, Mangalore,

Catholicism is a denomination and all those denominations were made by men and not by Jesus Christ. In fact the followers of Jesus Christ were called as Christians as of now because they followed faith in Jesus Christ son of the Living God. Matthew 16:16
Holy Bible is the final authority written and preserved in original manuscripts/form even today in papyrus in the divine library London. No book was preserved in the original form like the Holy Bible as of now.
The discovery of the Dead Sea scrolls is the witness received between1946 to 1957 tells the truth of the flawless Holy Bible.
    .

It is good that you have pointed out criticism and I was expecting criticisms from the commentators so that the critics can be clarified through the word of God. It is not that you are criticizing but while Jesus was on earth He was criticized by many.

THE HOLY BIBLE SAYS MY PEOPLE PERRISH BECAUSE OF LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. HOSEA 4:6
Concerning to your query of our Gospel I quote once again because you didn’t go through my comments accurately:

1 CORINTHIANS 4:3-4 BUT IF OUR GOSPEL BE HID, IT IS HID TO THEM THAT ARE LOST: IN WHOM THE GOD OF THIS WORLD HATH BLINDED THE MINDS OF THEM WHICH BELIEVE NOT, LEST THE LIGHT OF THE GLORIOUS GOSPEL OF CHRIST, WHO IS THE IMAGE OF GOD, SHOULD SHINE UNTO THEM.

Concerning to the gospels the apostles were eye witnesses I quote:
1 THESSALONIANS 1:5 FOR OUR GOSPEL CAME TO YOU NOT ONLY IN WORD, BUT ALSO IN POWER AND IN THE HOLY SPIRIT AND WITH FULL CONVICTION.”
The apostles Matthew and John were eye witnesses of Jesus Christ. Out of the twelve apostles John was the only apostles survived miraculously and all other apostles were martyred and Judas died on his own/committed suicide. After Apostle John’s miraculous survival he was sent to Patmos island and there he wrote the book of Revelations and died in the old age.

Dr Lobo has ventured into the 'deep seas' which one nowadays does not dare explore.
For the simple reason that if one 'questions' established practices especially if a 'religion' is concerned then he is termed a 'rebel'. One is just expected to 'follow' nowadays! Growth therefore is 'stunted' and 'novelty' is given the boot at the outset.Jesus as is to be rightly pointed out started out on his own without any 'preconceived notions'. He is now set to be the 'founder' of Christanity a 'religion' named after him. In this context the observations by Dr Lobo would become that more interesting. For sure, all enlightened masters do not 'preach any religion'. It is his 'followers'who form an 'organisation' do it later. There is every and real threat of some of the sheen of the 'original gist' sought to be portrayed by the'Master's' being lost in the 'melee' and 'rush.'....

Congratulations Michael Lobo. Good work. As Giselle comments, that “ Religion is a disciplinary tool for social control “ which is quite sensible, but beg to think little bit differently if she says “for Political Control”. Because in these times the Enlightened Democratic States are supposed to be trying to keep away from Religion accept in Islamic Countries. More over since the Book is on Christianity in my view, the purpose of Jesus himself was not to establish a Religion on earth. It is his successors or Disciples who formed it as a Religion. Jesus always said, he has come to this world to spread the word of God & the kingdom he talked about was of God, & life after the 2nd or ultimate death. Hence Christianity as a Religion in modern society cannot lean on earthly Politics. Christianity is Universal. Hence, we the believers cling to the message of Christ, concentrate more on what Lord Jesus teachings & directions are. Non Christians pay more attention & listen & follow what is said by Christ than who said it. Any way a good start.

The Holy Bible was written chronologically from the beginning. The Apostles of Jesus who were anointed by the Holy Spirit appeared to them exactly after 50 days of Jesus death as promised by Jesus in John 14:15.
Jesus started his ministry at the age of 30 Heavenly Father was the boat which saved us from the great flood/water baptism. (The prophesy of the Ark of the Covenant 300cubits length, breadth is 50 cubits and 30 cubits height) Israelites were also brought out from Egypt and saved through water from the red sea.
The truth of the gospel is:
1 Thessalonians 1:5 For our gospel came to you not only in word, but also in power and in the Holy Spirit and with full conviction.”
And this truth of the gospel will be preached to the whole world then the end will come.
1 Corinthians 4:3-4 But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.
Before the word/Jesus becomes flesh prophet Isaiah prophesized coming of Jesus.
Isaiah 9:6. For unto us a child is born,
unto us a son is given:
and the government shall be upon his shoulder:
and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counselor,
Mighty God, everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

God created male and female and we are all the generations of Adam and eve. He created them from the dust and blessed them to be fruitful on earth to have genealogy.
John 3:16. For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (There are many begottens in the Holy bible. But Jesus is the only begotten son of the Heavenly Father. In other words the only one of this kind).

It is natural and normal to doubt, to ask questions. Especially human beings who face difficult situations or times begin to ask questions.
How could it happen and why did it happen? There are up and downs in human relationships and even in a relationship with God.
Doubt of God happens regularly especially when we are confronted with a serious disease.
For example Victor Frankl who entered Auschwitz in 1942 never lost the purpose and meaning of his life.

Nowadays science delivers results and answers to lot of problems and science has helped and improved the standard of living in many parts of the world.
Though all progress there is an urge in every human being to look for a meaning of life.
Especially in the western world million of people are desperately looking for a meaning of life and it is obvious that a high standard of living does not satisfy their spiritual needs.
Buddhism, Hinduism, meditation and yoga attract million of people in the western world because human beings need spiritual guidance and a meaning.

I am very interested in reading the book “Is Christianity a Flawless Religion”.
In modern days of knowledge dogmatism and traditional theology are not understood and accepted by people of secular societies.
There is no doubt Christianity cannot be a flawless religion.
But most important is the message of the Gospel. For me this wonderful message is joy, happiness, love, mutual understanding, respect and tolerance and to look after the needy and poor and downtrodden.
And this message offers human beings a spiritual meaning of life, it gives strength and power and certainty and it reaches the feelings, the heart and psyche.

And one of the most important points is to apply a language which is understood by people who live in secular societies that this wonderful message of the Gospel reaches out to them.
How can the Church win back its dwindling flock?
One can read what I mentioned above. It is possible to give human beings a meaning of life. The Gospel delivers this meaning.
Thank you Dr Michael Lobo for writing this book.

    Best regards
