Mangalore: Alva's Nudisiri - Bishop Dr Aloysius, Girish Kasaravalli to be Honoured

Mangalore, Oct 29: Nine personalities and a trust that has been engaged in the task of promoting Kannada language and literature will be honoured during the 9th 'Alva's Nudisiri', said Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva's Education Trust.

Addressing a press meet here on Monday October 29, he said that Alva's Nudisiri will be held from November 16 to November 18 at Alva's College Campus. The event will comprise entertainment, cultural and intellectual programmes on all the three days, he said. The event will be inaugurated by litterateur Dr U R Ananthamurthy

Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, on behalf of the entire Catholic community for the service rendered in the field of education, Girish Kasaravalli (cinema), Sri Sri Dr Panditharadhya Shivacharya Swamiji Sanehalli (Kannada culture), Dr C P Krishna and Dr G Siddalingiah (literature), Vaijayanthi Kashi (dance and silver screen), Padmashree Ramachandra Hegde Chittani (Yakshagana), Dr Vishnunaik (literature), Subhadra Mansoor (theatre) and Loka Shikshana Trust (publications) will be honoured.

The Award includes a cash prize of Rs 10,000, a citation and a memento.

The Awards will be presented during the valedicatory function on November 18 after 3:30 pm. The valedictory address will be delivered by veteran litterateur Dr Erya Lakshmi Narayan Alva. The programme will be presided over by Nadoja Dr K S Nisar Ahmed.

Prof G Venkata Subbayya will receive a special honour on November 16, during a ceremony to be presided over by Shree Dharmasthala Kshetra Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade.

This year, Nudisiri will be organized with the motto 'Kannada Manassu Janapara Chalavali'.

Kannada Sahitya Parishad president Pundalika Halambi, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, former minister K Amarnath Shetty, Moodbidri MLA K Abhayachandra Jain, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik will be the chief guests during the inaugural ceremony.

The event will kick-off with a colourful cultural procession prior to the inauguration, accompanied by the president and guests of honour and chief guests.

With a view to enhance the flavour of Vishwa Nudisiri to be held in 2013, Alva's Nudisiri unit will be set up in diffrent parts of the state. Shimoga and Sullia unit will be inaugurated on November 11 and 13, informed Dr Alva.

Prior to Alva's Nudisiri 2012, Alva's Chitrasiri, a state-level painting camp and national painting competition will be held from November 8 to November 11 at Moodbidri Vidyagiri Sundari Anand Alva campus.

The painting camp will be inaugurated on November 8 at 10:15 am by Sri Sri Sri Bhattaraka Charukeerthi Pandithacharyavarya Swamiji of Moodbidri Jain Math.

"Over 2,000 entries have been received so far and the target is 6,000 entries. Cultural programmes will be organized daily on five different stages put up in the campus," he said.

Dhananjay Kumble and Harish Addoor were also present.

    Good news. Bishop Aloysius DSouza will receive the honour at the Nudisiri function on behalf of the entire catholic community for his contribution in the field of education. St. Joseph Engineering College and Fr. Mullers Medical College will greatly help in the spread of higher education. I congratulate Bishop and extend my best wishes for the success of the function.     It is a honour to the entire Catholic community that the Bishop of Mangalore is chosen to be honored on behalf the community for their contribution to the field of education. Yes , even though the percentage of Christians is less than 3% but in terms of service rendered towards nation building is 40% in the fields of Education, Healthcare and Social Development by the community. At least a private Trust has recognized the contributions of the Community. Thanks to Mr Alva. Congrats to the Bishop Mos Rev Dr A.P D'souza.
