Sandstorm, Rain Hit Dubai - Police Issue Alert to Motorists

Dubai, Oct 29 (Emirates 24X7) : Sandstorm hit Dubai and Northern Emirates even as parts of Eastern Emirates recorded scattered rainfall on Monday evening.

According to the National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology (NCMS), there would be thundry clouds in the Eastern areas which would intensify over coastal and northern areas with strong dust and wind.

Dubai and Abu Dhabi police issued an alert to motorists to be careful and drive safely during low visibility.

The sea would remain rough with fresh and strong winds associated with rainy and thundry clouds.

NCMS has warned motorists to be careful due to a drop in visibility levels.

The relative humidity is likely to increase over some coastal and interior areas with chance of mist.

Similar weather is predicted for tomorrow.

“The dust storm really started to intensify at around 4pm. I even witnessed an accident near the Bowling Centre exit to Al Khail Road,” said one motorist.

The National Centre for Meteorology and Seismology put out a rough sea warning on Monday and asked the seafarers to be alert when going out into the sea.

Cumulus clouds, thunderstorm and lightning will cause severe disturbance at sea, a statement from NCMS said.

The motorists driving along valleys should take extra caution as landslides, active winds and low visibility are forecast.
