Mangalore: Jail Inmates Fight, Warden Punished !

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore

Mangalore, Oct 30: Talk of adding insult to injury, and in this case, probably literally. The prison warden of district sub jail who was injured in the clash between the jail inmates, is on the receiving end again.

Instead of punishing the inmates who got into a fight, the authorities have suspended the warden who was thrashed and injured in the clash!

On October 26, two groups in district sub jail had a communal fought over the provision of biriyani. Puttanna, the warden of the jail who tried to intervene and resolve the fight was injured on his hand. He later filed a complaint with the Barke police.

But according to reports, the jail superintendent has issued a notice to suspend Puttanna from duty with immediate effect.

Speaking to daijiworld, a jail official who did not want to be named said that 20 prisoners who created havoc in the jail should have been punished, but surprisingly, an innocent jail warden has been punished instead.

What kind of punishment one can expect to give to jail inmates as they are already with the punishment. I beleive the authorities have done good job by suspending the warden who created this ugly scene. He must ensure that all inmates are looked after impartially. These inmates have very worst life in jail and when the warden acts in this way one can't expect them to be soft or patient. Let us look at the life of these inmates than just comment on suspension of warden!!!!

First of Jail Authorities should have punished those person who ordered to give Biriyani on Eid Al-Adha. Once again it has been proved that these dreaded Criminals and Petty Thieves’ don’t deserve special food like Biriyani on any occasion. I believe these Criminals inside the Jail are not that much communal minded like Jail Superintendent. Put this Jail Superintendent inside the Jail and serve him Biriyani on daily basis

In the first place if Biriyani hasbeen decided to be given everybody should have been given whether Hindu or Muslim .There should not have been any discrimination like only Muslims are given Biryani .A prisoner is a prisoner irrespective of Caste ,Creed ,Religion or any political affiliations .But the Prisoners would not have created havoc or infight .So what is the solution .
    1. In all Indian jails pt for a few like TIHAR Jail no Creative works are given to the prisoners .There should be active working by the prisoners .They should create Bakeries or Factories like Tihar and given training and then those products can be sold outside .As per law a Prisoner is entitled for a Salary for the work and that money can be given to him when he leaves the Jail .2. There should be regular Moral classes .3. There can be even secular education like SSLC ,PUC or BA Bcom .Jails should be a REFORM CENTRE not a ROTTING CENTRE for the Prisoners .When the Prisoner comes out of the Jail he should be a totally transformed Human being .Or else they will form Gangs in Jails .Most of the notorious Gangs are Idealised ,Formed and Started from within the Jails

Most of the undertrials are under the patronage politicians and rest are from Kesari brigades. But warden's head rolled because somebody should made scapegoat for the fiasco of BIRIYANI issue. It is indeed discirimination towards one section underminig other section's interest. Are these undertrials deserves BIRIYANI?
