Puttur Lads Emerge Victorious at International Karate Championship

Puttur, Oct 30: Two young Karate black belts from Puttur, Clement Sequeira and Sunil Rai have emerged victorious in the International Open Karate championship.

The tournament was conducted at Bangalore by the Great Indian Budokai Martial Arts School from October 26 to October 28, where over 1,500 Karate experts from all over India and south Asia participated in the Kata, Team Kata and Kumite (Sparring) events in different belt, age and weight categories.

Sunil won the first place in the Men Black Belts, 65-70 Kg weight category Kumite (Sparring) and Clement won the third place in the Men Black Belts, 70-75 Kg weight category Kumite.

The highlight of the tournament was when Sunil defeated Prajwal Kumar in the semi-final round after tough fight inspite of a nose injury. Prajwal was earlier crowned as the Grand Champion of the Open Sparring category in the competition.
 
Clement a 3rd Dan Black belt and Sunil, a 1st Dan Black belt are students of Shihan Suresh M who has been training them for more than 18 years. Instructor Shihan Suresh M who is a 6th Dan black belt himself has been training hundreds of students in Martial Arts for almost 25 years under Institute of Karate and Allied Arts (IKAA) which is affiliated to Karate Budokan International Malaysia and All India Budokan Karate Federation.
 
In spite of moving to Bangalore to pursue their careers and having full time jobs in their own field of specialization, both have been actively practicing and teaching different forms of martial arts on weekends and their free time. Both are authorized Instructors for IKAA and Karate Budokan International.
 
Clement is the son of Gratia and A A D Sequeira hailing from Bappalige, Puttur. A multi-talented youngster who is a very good a guitarist as well. Currently he works as HR Manager for one of the world leading Analytics Company based in the US. He is the Vice President of Institute of Karate and Allied Arts, Bangalore and is also associated with Gold’s Gym as a Kick Boxing and Mixed Martial Arts trainer.
 
Sunil is the son of Sundar and Taradevi Rai from Biliyurkatte / Kallare in Puttur. He manages sales and marketing for a reputed construction and infrastructure company in Bangalore. Sunil also assists Clement in his martial arts classes during his free time.
 
Both will be a part of the Large team of Karatekas from Institute of karate and Allied Arts, who will be participating in the World Union of karate Do Federations(WUKF ) Intercontinental Karate Championships which will be held in Delhi from 21st to 25th November 2012.
