Udupi: Kota Poojary Lists out Devt Plans for District at Rajyotsava Celebrations

Udupi, Nov 1: The 57th Kannada Rajyotsava celebrations were held here on Thursday November 1 with a grand ceremony.

District incharge and muzrai minister Kota Srinivas Poojary hoisted the flag and recieved the guard of honour.

Addressing the gathering, Poojary said that for the year 2012-13, Rs 3,398 lac has been approved by the government under rural drinking water scheme. Out of this, 817 projects have already been done, and 70 more are under construction at a cost of Rs 54.34 lac.

"Rs 400 lac has been allotted for emergency drinking wayer provision, out of which works worth Rs 161 lac have been undertaken already," he said.

Under multi-village drinking water scheme, 8 projects have been taken up in Udupi for which the government has released Rs 735 lac. In Kundapur, 10 projects have been undertaken at a cost of Rs 8690 lac and in Karkala at a cost of Rs 4056 lac.

"Rs 523.44 lac has been approved for 199 road maintenance works under the rural road development plan," he said, "Also, Rs 200 lac has been set aside for coastal development, and 45 foot bridges have been approved."

Under Basava housing project, 2,443 houses have been completed at a cost of Rs 30 lac, with 6,782 beneficiaries. Already, applications have been recieved from 4,957 beneficiaries this year," he said, adding that under Indira Gandhi Awaz scheme, 956 houses were constructed and 928 houses were repaired.

The fifth phase of Suvarna Grameen Yojana has also been approved at a cost of Rs 2,596 lac. Also, farmers have been give a subsidy of Rs 30.10 lac under Suvarna Bhoomi Yojana. Rs 260.62 lac has been approved for development of horticulture, he said.

The government has invested Rs 147.42 lac on provision of free books, uniforms, bicycles and school bags to school children. Rs 22 lac has been spent under Sarva Shikshana Abhiyan.

Rs 375 lac has been used for the SC/ST colony under social welfare department and Rs 11.99 lac has been set aside for the construction of Morarji Desai hostel in Karkala and Byndoor for the backward and minority classes. Approval has also been given for the construction of a post-metric hostel.

"Under Bhagyalaxmi scheme, there were 2,485 beneficiaries. As many as 2,518 Koraga families were provided nutritious food," Poojary said.

On fisheries development, he said the Malpe port is in the third phase of construction, for which Rs 37.15 crore has been invested. Docks will be built at Angarkatte, Gangolli, Kodikani at a cost of 3 crore, funded by NABARD. Similar project will be undertaken at Kundapur at a cost of Rs 4 crore.

"Rs Rs 960 lac has been released for the welfare of the fishing community," he added.

"As many as 283 skilled craftsmen have been provided free equipement worth Rs 3000 each," he said.

Under religious endowment development plan, 21 temples have been recognized under A1 category, 23 under B category and 759 under C category.

Referring to online application for ration cards, he said 9,515 applicationes have been recieved for BPL cards and 26,920 for APL cards.

On the occasion, district Rajyotsava awards were presented to 25 personalities from different fields.

A marchpast was held by 15 groups including police, navy, army and school bands. Cultural programmes which included 12 dances and two songs added charm to the event.

MLA Raghupati Bhat, DC Dr M T Reju, DySP Prabhudev Mane and others were present.

Prior to the celebrations, colourful tabluex were taken in a procession from Board High School to the ground. A puja was also offered to goddess Bhuvaneshwari.

Kundapur, Nov 1: Kannada Rajyotsava was celebrated here on Thursday November 1 at Gandhi Maidan 9 am.

The programme was inaugurated by B Sadashiv Prabhu, assistant commissioner Kundapur . He also hoisted the flag and lighted the lamp.

A marchpast was conducted by the police, scouts and guide students from different schools, under the sub-inspector Sheikh Ali.

Speaking on the occasion the Sadashiv Prabhu said that Karnataka has a treasury of literature. "The contribution of personalities such as Dr Shivaram Karanth, Gopal Krishna Adiga and many others to Kannada literature is tremendous," he said.

"Karnataka is diverse with many native languages like Kannada, Konkani and Tulu. There is a good balance of relationships that is maintained in the society. There are many religions with beautiful cultures. People from around the world come to visit or stay in Karnataka," he said.

Deepika S Shetty , president of Taluk Panchayat Kundapur; Mohandas Shenoy, president of town municipality Kundapur; Kishore Kumar, Yashodha Shiburu were present.

    Dinesh Poojary, it is high time now to give up and crying as common man....do you know who is common man now in India...it is just a word or creation by political parties. Do you know how much a common man spends on entertainment, leisure, to visit temples, liquor and what and not which a rich man thinks twice or thrice before he could spent!! only when thre are hikes on Gas, oil and some of the Government controlled utilities in India, people make hype of it due to some political parties gains!! at the same common man like U dont think when a strike takes place, riot takes place and communal violene (due to dirty politics) millions and crores loose ....that time common man doesnt suffer and forgets all within days!!! please stop crying in the name of common man....JAI HO....

    Dinesh Poojary, Kundapura/Bengaluru does know how the economy of a country works. He does not even know based on what criteria oil prices are decided. He knows nothing at all. He is simply blaming the Congress govt. for anything and everything because he is a supporter of BJP.
