Abu Dhabi: B G Mohandas to Receive Maiden D R Bendre Award

Abu Dhabi, Nov 1: Karnataka Rajyotsava award recipient and premier Kannada forum of the Gulf, Abu Dhabi Karnataka Sangha has instituted a distinguished award in the name of ‘vara kavi’ D R Bendre.

Speaking to media, president Sarvotham Shetty said that this prestigious annual award will be conferred on persons who have contributed towards the development of Kananda culture, language, literature and heritage in this part of the world. The award will be conferred on every Rajyotsava celebration day of the Sangha.

He also announced that the members of the executive committee under the chairmanship of chief patron Dr B R Shetty has unanimously selected former president of Kanratak Sangha, Dubai and founder, Gulfkannadiga.com B G Mohandas as the maiden recipient of this award for 2012.

B G Mohandas who was one of the founder members of Karnataka Sangha Dubai, and its president (1989), has contributed to the cause of Kananda culture and language for more than 25 years and is now running Gulf’s no1 Kananda website http://www.gulfkannadiga.com.

‘Beeji' as he is popularly known is the recipient of many recognitions such as outstanding Alumni of Manipal University, Mayura Award by Sharjah Karnatka Sangha (2007), Social Service recognition awards by Kannada Sangha Bahrain (2008) and Abudhabi Karnataka Sangha (2009). Recently he was also conferred ‘Vishwa Manava’ award at the 2nd Vishwa Kannada Sammelana held at Abu Dhabi(2012).
