Media, Kejriwal Jump from Issue to Issue: Azim Premji

Bangalore, Nov 2: IT czar Azim Premji today had a dig at the media and India Against Corruption leader Arvind Kejriwal saying they "flip" from one issue to another without following through.

"I think the media also, like Kejriwal, flips from topic to topic," the Wipro chairman told reporters here in response to questions.

"What I would strongly request is for the media to have consistency in following through whatever they dig up," he said.

Responding to a query whether issues of crony capitalism raised by civil society activists targeting politicians and corporate houses are a major concern, he said, "Things are no better, things are no worse than they have been in the past two years."

He said the media can contribute a lot towards reformation of the country.

Asked if the government's image has taken a beating by the recent "expose on Robert Vadra, Salman Khurshid and Gandhi family", Premji said, "I don't know if government (image) is taking a beating; its image is certainly not getting elevated by this (these allegations)."

He hailed the burst of economic reforms initiatives announced by the government in recent weeks, but said one has to keep one's fingers crossed vis-a-vis if there are reversals in execution of policies.

"I think the government has taken some very positive initiatives in the past two months," he said, adding, there is a renewed focus on trying to execute them.

Premji also referred to the recent Cabinet reshuffle and said from what he understood, the ministers have been told to "give results" and try to get bureaucrats to take more responsibility and fully support them if there are questioning (in future vis-a-vis any of the decisions).

"I think things are moving in the right direction. Let's keep our fingers crossed and whether there is consistency in execution and there is no reversal which is significant in terms of policy announcements made so far," he said.

He also hoped that the opposition would be "a little more constructive" during the coming winter session of Parliament.

All the probe against ministers and businessmen will end up with no evidence and clean hands. This never happened in the history after the Independence.

All i can say here is without smoke there is no fire. Every one, whether its an individual / establishment or a corporate all compete to get the best profit in whatever they do. Nothing wrong in that. All matters is how much of this each gives back to the society to help the underprivileged is the question.

I think public should support Mr.Kejriwal. We pay price plus tax for each and every thing that we utilise from this country, we serve to this country. But the rulers/govt, all ministers of nowadays don't pay even a paisa as tax, everything is free to them and they loot the contry, never serve the public as public represetatives in the govt. So our contry will never be rich/developed country if this system of corruption continues. It will remain developing/poorest in the world. After sometime poor people can not live in this country because of the inflation, everything will become accessible only to a politician or a businessman. No other can servive.

Arvind Kejriwal has started the work. Can you finish it? No because your expertise lies elsewhere. Does he tell you how to run your business? So please refrain from discouraging him from exposing all the crooks.

Kejariwal is campaigning his political party by putting allegations and allegations one by one. Government should put some restrictions against media channels to save our country's image otherwise we will lose our country's image. Ofcourse we should order the probe against corrupt/guilt leaders and should be punish severely.

Kejriwal and his actions are bit superfast!.Lay a strong foundation, a good team and proceed further, take peoples confidence on your side. Jumping directly and confronting without results it shows a weakness alltogether. Let people belive you don't be bang at once, be slow pace, let people trust your words sure you will succed in your goal!.Corruption is in the root, not only ministers not only bureaucrats but it is in the grass root itself. You cannot change the system at once but gradually! and it is for the betterment!.

Mr Premji has been raving and ranting about garbage pile up in bangalore. Why did he not hire some trucks clear the garbage and burn them. All this could have been done in one day .This would have cost him only a few lakhs. His company is making Rs20 crore profit per day. This expense could have been deducted from his tax proceeds which means he could have done this good samaritan act at the expense of the public and yet he would have earned public goodwill.

Jumping one issue to another is really necessary to know public the reality. As per the current situation, IAC can not justify the scams in the court or any inquiry, because whole system is corrupt. CBI,SIT,Courts also under influence of politicians and businessmen. There are series or scams going on daily which never comes out. Its really difficult task to discover hidden scams!!

    I agree with Roshan Braganza.

Wipro Q2 net profit was 22 percent up over previous quarter and the stock price is soaring. These business thinks of their benefit only. They plea for tax benefits, reformations etc when rupee is appreciating.

It was in 2007, Rupee appreciated against Dollar. All IT gaints started crying. I was with infosys that time, the management once speculated of Working on Saturdays too. The managment gave upadesha on time utilization, productivity improvement blah blah... But very soon economic balance achieved and we were relieved.

See now, they are making huge profit due to rupee depreciation. Will they give extra tax to Govt or extra salary for employees or one day more leave to its employees? My sister had no holiday for Ganesh Festival too. Very pathetic these IT companies are. They suck the peoples blood.

I feel Azim Premji is scared somehow on the grounds of Kejriwal exploding a new bomb of businessmen ruling this country.

Mr Kejriwal is correct. If no one speaks, the issues will not be known to the general public. If today one voice raises against a malpractice, tomorrow hundreds will join and the count goes on. If we are silent, we will further be exploited by businessmen and corrupt politicians.

Un necessary poking . May be he also has his own 'vested interests' , it may not be carnal sin , but truth is... he (and other giants ) make lot of profit against weak rupee in global market. They complain only when rupee appreciates or dollar weakens begging govt for tax beneficts . Indian enterprises like manufacturing or production suffering ( specially small and middle scale ) becoz consumer r more of indians itself against IT services which has more global takers.

At one hand we have people like Azim Premji praising the UPA policies and economic reforms and initiatives taken in the past two months. On the other hand we have Sushma,Jetly, and other BJP leaders who once wanted to bring out the same policies but now oppose the same because they do not want them to happen at UPA regime.
I hope the opposition party members are listening on what a great personality says about be "a little more constructive" during the coming winter session of Parliament.
For every policy by the UPA,the BJP has only one agenda that is to oppose it. It is just like a three hour hindi film where the villain keep trying to win the hero and at the end loses both the ends.

Kejriwal just want publicity. In the process,he did not spare Ambani/Tatas and other industrialists.Ratan Tata, 75 years old, retiring shortly even refused to take retirement pacakge from the company! Tata's 65% revenue were from foreign countries and employs lakhs of staffs across the world! He is leading simple life having average house in Mumbai(not palacios houses like SRK/Tendulkar/Amithab Bachchan!!. It is govt's responsibility to ensure conducive environment to run the business which in turn contributes to growth and economic affairs of the company. Now,Kejriwal to popularize IAC uses hit and run tactics towards any powerful individual/govt/industrialists which is not good sign.Azim Premji's assertions looks valid when we see media and Kejri glorifying incident after incident with out bringing logical end.
