Kasargod: Counterfeit Currency Racket - Prime Accused Held in Delhi

Kasargod, Nov 3: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has arrested one of the prime accused in the counterfeit currency racket, wherein a big amount of fake notes from abroad was smuggled to Kerala.

The accused, Abubakar from Kanhangad, was arrested from Delhi airport.

The agency had received information stating that Abubakar had links with international terrorists.

On September 18, 2010, Rs 8,96,000 counterfeit notes printed in Pakistan were confiscated by the police. The notes had reached Kerala through Abu Dhabi, and were transported from Karachi to Abu Dhabi in a container carrying onions. With the help of Abubakar's associates, it was brought to Kerala, said police sources.

The incident came to light when police seized Rs 8.96 lac from a car and arrested Abubakar's associates P P Pradeep of Pilathara, Ashish from Kannur, Kamal Ummar from Hosadurga and others. Abubakar's hand in the operation was revealed during their interrogation.

The NIA with the help of Interpol arrested Abubakar as soon he arrived at Delhi airport.
