China Files WTO Complaint Against EU

Geneva, Nov 6 (IANS): China has filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) against the European Union over its subsidies to the solar power sector.

The WTO Monday said that China has requested for consultations with the EU concerning the photovoltaic subsidies.

China alleges that certain EU measures in the renewable energy sector are inconsistent with WTO rules, Xinhua reported.

China's commerce ministry said the subsidy had adverse effects on the export of Chinese photovoltaic products and prejudiced the right of China as a member of WTO.

According to WTO dispute settlement rules, if two parties fail to reach any solution within 60 days, a WTO panel can be established to look into the case and make a ruling.
