Mangalore: Kalakar Award, Currency Expo, Monthly Theatre at Kalaangann

Mangalore, Nov 6: Kalaangann at Shaktinagar here was a hub of activity on Sunday November 4, with three events being organized during the same evening.

The 8th Kalakar Puraskar instituted by Mandd Sobhann, Carvalho Gharanne, and Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr of Goa was awarded to Norbert Gonsalves a unique artist of side rhythms.

The editor of Daijiworld Weekly and eminent theatre artist and director Hemacharya presented the award which consisted of Rs 25,000 in cash, a memento and an honour.

President of Mandd Sobhann Stany Alvares, Gurkar Eric Ozario, director of Thomas Stephens Konknni Kendr, Goa, Fr Apollo Cardozo and the representative of Carvalho Gharanne Florine Lobo were present.
 
At 5.30 pm, an exhibition of currency notes of different countries around the world was inaugurated by Steven Dias, central excise officer, customs and service tax, who is also a director of the Kalaangann governing body.

Richard Lobo, the collector of these currency notes, who has in his unique collection currency notes of 220 countries, was congratulated and felicitated on the occasion.
 
The day ended on a high note with the staging of the 131st monthly theatre ‘Geet Mandovi Zuvarichem’ beginning at 6.30 pm. A music programme by Swarshree Goa was successfully presented.
