Man Dies while waiting in Line to Vote in Puerto Rico

San Juan, Nov 7 (IANS/EFE): A 63-year-old man died Tuesday while he was waiting in line to vote on election day in Puerto Rico, the police reported.

The man, identified as Robert Median Sotomayor, died near a polling place in Adjuntas, in southern Puerto Rico, after falling to the ground and suffering convulsions.

The man, whom eyewitnesses said was not involved in any incident, was transported to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

A total of 2.4 million Puerto Ricans are eligible to vote Tuesday to elect their governor and representative to the US Congress, as well as local legislators and mayors.

Voters will also have the opportunity to express their viewpoint regarding the island's relationship with the US, voting "yes" or "no" on whether to keep Puerto Rico a US commonwealth, a status that allows a certain amount of autonomy to the local government.
