Mangalore: MCCP Muscat Distributes Scholarships Worth Rs 11.5 Lac

Mangalore, Nov 7: Mangalorean Catholic Center of the Parish (MCCP), Muscat on Wednesday November 7 distributed scholarships to 31 students and provided financial support to three parishes and seven organizations during a ceremony held at Milagres Church hall here.

Altogether, scholarships and financial support rendered by MCCP amounted to Rs 11.25 lac.

A number of needy students from primary to degree were given scholarships. The parishes and organizations which received financial support through MCCP were St Francis Assisi, Nainad, Mandd Sobhann, Bellary diocese, St Joseph College of Engineering, Vamanjoor, Kuloor Church, Seon Ashram, Ladyhill School, St Joseph Seminary, Jeppu, Gulbarge Diocese, St Antony Church, Chikmagalur.

Fr Francis Gomes, principal of Milagres College was the chief guest. Sr Aloysius, Stany Alvares, president of Mandd Sobhann, and Stany Fernandes, president of MCCP shared the dais and handed over the scholarships and funds.

In his introductory message, Stany Fernandes said that the association since its inception in 1992 has been contributing towards the welfare of the society. "The funds given to the needy are collected through organizing various programmes in Muscat," he added.

He said that a number of needy students especially from Mangalore, Gulbarga and Bellary dioceses are given scholarships

Fr Gomes appreciated the services rendered by MCCP and wished the members success in their future endeavours. "Empowering students is the best help one can extend," he said, congratulating the beneficiaries of the scholarships.

Sr Aloysius lauded MCCP for its concern towards the needy students. "These days people hesistate to make sacrifices for others but MCCP has sacrificed a part of their savings," she said, adding that the work done by MCCP was commendable.

She also asked the students to contribute some part of their earnings to the needy once they start working.

Louis J Pinto, Elias Fernandes, Fr Jerald Sequeira, Fr Freddy among others were present.
