Beltangady: 'Vested Interests Using Sowjanya Case for Publicity'

Daijiworld Media Network – Beltangady (NM)

Beltangady, Nov 9: Hundreds of people on Friday November 9 staged protest against the rape and murder of student Sowjanya and also on the rising suspicion about the involvement of locals and authorities of Dharmasthala.

As part of the protest, a vehicle procession was also held from Dharmasthala to Beltangady.

Addressing the gathering, Keshav Belalu, president of Dharmasthala panchayat said, “Swamiji, presspersons and a few other people with vested interests have been making use of Sowjanya’s case gaining publicity.  Don’t try to divide the society," he warned.

"Investigation should also be carried out to catch those who have been indulging in circulating SMS on this issue," he said.

Condemning the move, Keshav M, taluk panchayat president said, "The police have registered cases against innocent people helped the police in the investigation."

Dhanakirthi Ariga said that Mahesh Shetty of HJV should stop speaking against Dharmasthala.

"Investigations should be ordered into all the 54 cases of unnatural deaths that have taken place in Dharmasthala, CC cameras should be installed in all the important places and Sowjanya's should be handed over to the CBI" he said.

He added that if there is any pressure from influential people on the police as claimed by some, it has to be brought to limelight. "Action should be taken against those people who have been diverting people's attention," he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Dhanalakshmi Janardhan, member of zilla panchyat said, "Society must respect girls so that it will give them courage and confidence."

The protesters demanded that immediate investigation should be launched to track down SMS senders who falsely claim the involvement of locals and authorities of Dharmasthala.

After the protest, a memorandum was submitted addressed to the chief minister and district superidendetent of police. Tahsildar Kusuma Kumari and SI Yogish Kumar received the memorandum.

Panchayat member Srinivas Rao, former president Haridas Gambir, Dharmasthala panchayat member Chandan Prasad Kamath, Babu Gowda, grandfather of Sowjanya were present at the protest.

As part of the protest, the entire town observed a voluntary bandh.

There was big Hue & Cry in Homestay attack. Why the same Human Rights Commisson dosen't appear here to check the incident in the case. Perhaps Media is ive in its approach. Both in the case of Homestay & here, the girls suffer, & justice is required in both the case. CBI/COD probe is necessary in the matter. People should not entertain the gossips & rumors spreard any form, either SMS or so.

Not pointing at anyone, Be it in Sowjanya Case or Mist home stay attack, Had it not been MASS MEDIA, the cases would have been hushed up. Our administration is VERY WEAK and susceptible.
In high tech age, it doesn't take so long to detect crime/nab real culprits. Longer time to reveal is indication that high powers are involved and efforts are on to suppress the truth/case. Public shouldn't keep quite,Otherwise crime will go on!
Administration is responsible to public, no one should falsely be implicated and made scape Goat.
Here, more Bold upright Persons like Shri. Santosh Hegde, Arvind Kejriwal, Justice Saldanha are required.

Very very unfortunate to know that the whole episode of Sowjnya rape and murder case taking ugly turn by some vested interest group just to get politicalise the issue. In the process respected personalities are getting wrath of the section of the society which indeed uncalled for and misguiding of few(SMS PROPAGANDA)All concerned need to cooperate with authorities to bring about a logical end to the mystery of Sowjnya's rape and murder.

For god's sake do not play politics in the expense of Sowjnya's family and if not able to help the family just leave them alone.Police department need to take public in to confidence and share the progress of the case.I don't know why these misunderstandings/agitations and counter agitations are taking place as DHARMASTALA itself is a holy place. It is better if Belthangady/Ujire and Dharmsatala residents need to sit around the table and sort it out before taking police to quiz.
