Muscat, Nov 10:
Two Mangalorean teachers serving in Oman for several years have won well deserved awards for their constant and dedicated service to the education field in Oman.

Helen Lobo, teacher (supervisor for primary section) of Indian School Al Ghubra, Sultanate of Oman won the prestigious 'Monprit Award' for the Best Teacher of Indian Schools in Oman on November 8. Rita Pais, simple and devoted to her teaching profession won the ‘Certificate of Excellence” award in the same award ceremony.

These awards for teaching excellence were instituted in the year 2010 in the name of Dr H L Virmani, father of Suresh Virmani, one of the well-known entrepreneurs in Oman heading Bahwan Engineering Company Co LLC

Helen Lobo is a native of Madanthyar, Mangalore. She is the daughter of the late Raymond Andrade and wife of John Lobo and mother of Jean and Jolen Lobo.

She worked as a teacher for 7 years at St Joseph’s Primary School, Mysore, inlcuding 3 years as its headmistress, and for past 25 years she has served in the Indian School in Oman.

Expressing her joy on winning this prestigious award, she says as a teacher, her ambition was to be devoted to her profession under all circumstances and she always strived to achieve high standards. Her principle is to work with love, unity and harmony. She’s a person of values and makes great effort to instill these values in the children too.

She is an active parishioner of Sts Peter and Paul Church, Ruwi. She holds the office of Catechism and Legion of Mary in the parish. She also is a member of the Monti Fest committee.

Rita Pais was born and brought up in the peaceful little town of Admar in Udupi taluk. Though her education began in the elementary school at Kenha, Mudarangadi (Mangalore diocese), she completed her masters degree from Bombay University.

After completing her Teachers Training Course, she taught in India for a short period and then joined Indian School Muscat in 1983 and still continue to teach there. She is blessed with an ever loving and supporting husband Peter (from Kirem Parish, Mangalore) and two lovely daughters Preema and Priscy. Preema is completing her PhD in Physics and Priscy is working in IT after completing her degree in Computer Science.

For Rita Indian School Muscat has been the best Institution to work at. She says with an expression of gratitude towards the school and fulfillment of serving the education field,  "I have always received love and cooperation from my colleagues; support and encouragement from my superiors and being nominated for the 'Best Teacher Award' is a testimony to this. Also, the parents I have dealt with have always been cordial and respectful towards me."
