Mangalore: 28 Enter Finals of All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition

Mangalore, Nov 14: Twenty-eight youth from Goa and Karnataka have qualified for the finals of Rohan and Lavita Monteiro All India Konkani Poetry Reciting Competition to be held at Thumbe, Bantwal on January 13, 2013 during Kavita Fest.

Kavita Fest is an annual event being organised by Kavita Trust, which works for the promotion of Konkani poetry.

The preliminary rounds of the competition were held at Margao and Panaji in association with Konkani Bhasha Mandal, Goa.  In Mangalore, Mandd Sobhann and in Udupi, Mother of Sorrows Church, joined hands with Kavita Trust to organize this competition.

Andrew L D'Cunha, Kishoo Barkur, William Pais and Averyl Rodrigues were the judges for the competition and Vitori Karkal was the main convenor.

In Panaji, the competition was held at the T B Cunha Hall and in Margao at the Konkani Bhasha Mandal Hall. President of Konkani Bhasha Mandal Chetan Acharya welcomed at both places and Melvyn Rodrigues, president, Kavita Trust, briefed the rules and regulations of the competition.

Each participant was allowed to recite his/her own or anyone else' s poem within a time duration of one-and-a-half to three minutes.

Poets Poornananda Chyari, Uday Mhambro, Maya Kharangate, secretary of Bhasha Mandal Anwesha Singbal were present during Margao preliminaries.


The finalists are:

Vishwa Pratap Pawar, Sushmita Pai, Aniket Arjun, Mangesh P, Vevali DSouza, Ranjita Gosavi, Milindra G Velip, Siddhi T Shet Raikar, Hyacint Monteiro, Vaishnavi M, Kajol Naik, Hetal Shah, Suvina Palkar, Purna Gaonkar, Reshma Surlekar, Katyayini Ghatwal, Yuga Adarkar, Varsha Kavlekar and Nikita Bhonsle (all from Goa), Amora Monteiro, Roshni Goveas, Priya Suman Baretto, Jaison J Sequeira, Clement Fernandes, Privil Raj Rodrigues (all from Mangalore), Amrita DSilva, Raina Rodrigues and Lavita Pinto (all from Udupi)
