Sullia, Nov 17: Rashtriya Sainik Samstha, a social organization based in Ghaziabad had recently held a unique programme aimed at abolishing dowry. Eligible men and women from across the country had participated and chosen their life partners.

As a result of the 'Yuvak Yuvati Parichay Sammelan', Sullia and Puttur are now poised to welcome 10 prospective brides, all the way from Varanasi in north India.

The girls had met their would-be life partners from Dakshina Kannada at the swayamvar event, and the parents of brides had given their consent. However, the condition was that they would first visit the houses where their daughters would stay after marriage, before finalizing the alliance.

The brides and families are expected to arrive in the district by this month end. The two families will meet and get to know each other.

The event in Ghaziabad was a big success, with close to 240 alliances being fixed. The event was aimed at eradication of the dowry system. Those who participated had to first take an oath not to demand dowry.

The Rashtriya Sainik Samstha, which organized the programme, was founded by Colonel Tejandra Pal Tyagi. The organization comprises ex-servicemen and civilian patriots, and frequently holds socially relevant activities of various kinds.
