Mangalore: Blue Seas in Black and White: B Dayanand's Art Expo Opens

Mangalore, Nov 18: 'Sinchana' an exhibition of art works by B Dayanand of Daya School of Arts was inaugurated at Prasad Art Gallery, Ballalbagh here on Saturday November 17.

After inaugurating the exhibition, veteran artist Ramadas Shevagar said, "I am inspired looking at the spirit of D Dayanand even at this age. Though his right hand is afflicted with polio, the spirit is still strong," he said.

"I have been his guru for years together, but I cannot paint an ocean like B Dayanand," he said.

"Though all the paintings are on the same theme of sea waves, interestingly, each one varies from the other. The artist has beautifully portrayed the emotions of the sea waves," he opined pointing at the displayed works.

Samskara Bharathi patron Kumble Sundar Rao said, "Today, importance is given to pursue degree in engineering, medicine and computers, and the interest of the child is neglected. There were days when drawing and singing classes were part of the syllabus, however, it’s not the same today," he said.

"There are few who have achieved success with small initial investment and artist Dayanand is one among them," he said, congratulating him and adding that his hard work and dedication to art had brought him success.

Lauding the talent of B Dayanand, B N R Rao of Vivek Engineering College said, "I have put up many art works in my house and all of them have been created by B Dayanand. His art works be one more chapter in the history of Mangalore art," he said, urging people to buy them.

Industrialist Rajesh Naik of Oddoor Farms also spoke on the occasion.

Guests were given away portraits made by B Dayanand.

As many as 20 art works were displayed on the theme 'sea waves'. All the paintings are black and white made using charcoal, says 63-year-old B Dayanand speaking to Daijiworld. "The works will not wither even though it they are made of charcoal," he adds.

An ardent follower of Sri Sri Ravishankar, Dayanand has done more than 750 paintings of the spiritual leader. "Each portrait highlights different poses and expressions of Guruji," he says.  

The exhibition will go on till November 22.
