Mangalore, Nov 18:
A fact finding report on the infamous July 28 home stay attack incident, jointly compiled by People’s Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) Karnataka and Forum Against Atrocities on Women, Mangalore was released by Bangalore-based advocate Hemalatha Mahishi at Sahodaya Hall near Balmatta here on Sunday November 18.

Addressing the gathering Mahishi said that the city once known for positive reasons in the entire state has now attained a different facet. "The culprits should not escape from the clutches of the law as it happened in the case of pub attack in 2009.

"Political backing is enough to encourage such elements," she added.

She said that the role of police in handling the entire episode was uncertain as every attempt was made to victimize TV journalist Naveen Soorinje, a witness. "This case needs to reach a logical conclusion," she asserted.

She expressed doubts over girl victims of the incident coming forward to fight the case. "Their evidence is key to the case and they play a vital role in the fight for justice," she said.

She also stressed on the need for concerted efforts by like-minded people against moral policing, especially.

Former journalist, Manipal Institute of Communication director Prof Varadesh Hiregange addressing the gathering said that police had been insensitive in dealing with cases of moral policing against pairs belonging to different religions. "Police have acted insensitively to the extent of calling the parents of the victims to the police stations and warning them," he said.

Hiregange added that when the Tehelka had exposed a scam by a government machinery, the latter harassed the media house by targetting it, likewise, filing case against the scribe who was a witness to the case was absurd.

"Earlier, 112 cases of moral policing and such other incidents had taken place in the district, however, there was lack of evidence. But in the case of home stay attack, TV journalist was a key witness and his footages helped the police investigations too. The police should withdraw the cases against Naveen. I hope that the fact finding report compiled by PUCL and Forum Against Atrocities on Women would be useful for further investigations," he said.

Writer-cum-activist Gulabi Bilimale, Suresh Bhat Bakrebailu, Sabiha Boomegowda among others were present. Vijayalaxmi Shetty compered the programme.

similar kind of behaviour we can see in Priyanka Gandhi, when she is on the field we see her wearing saari so neatly like indian woman just to fool the people & off the field she is just typical european woman!!!...good sence of hypocracy!!- Santhosh Udupi..

What do you mean by off field? At least she wears sari in public. Do you go out in lan*****? Pant, tshirt not Indian dress right? Don't be so hypocritial..

Relax...don't just explode....FYI i'm not against to any western culture or their way of dressing, i just expressed my opinion on somebody's comment in which he mentioned "indian women will never come front for asking justice like western women", for which i replied "when indian women can adopt western dressing culture & way of celebrating parties like M.Mist, then why can't in asking justice for themselves?"
And about protesting India's Film Industry, FYI it's just an entertainment sector & it is leagally bound with concerned Indian law, but practicing the same in reality in our society i'm sure not only me even your family members will protest it.

Santhosh, Udupi, if you have so much concern of Indian men/women wearing in western style, why can't you protest India's Film Industry where almost naked dances are in practice ? If you are so fond of dhoti and bullock cart, why do you travel by buses & why did you learn English language ? One thing is certain that those who scream loudly against western dresses/culture, they secretly enjoy 'Sheela ki Jawani' 'Chikni Chameli' 'Jalebi bai' 'Munni Badnaam' etc. Learn to practice what you preach.

Its not our culture in India where Girls will come forward and tell openly that 'I am raped' & 'I am traped' and 'I am duped' HJV knows this well in advance so they target only Girls and Women!

Our Kaki police too managed to detain only victims initially.
After getting pressure from all corners they detained HJV's becuse they too have SOFT corner to HJV, RS,BJD,etc that is a naked truth all knows.
Specially our police target beauty parlours in order to collect he HAFTA not less than 50000/demand that too proved and Kadri inspector promoted too for doing so.

having dhothi & travelling by bullock cart much better & safer these days, unless not like you guys having wierd kind of dress like low waist pants(which shows half the prats)& hangout in some intoxicated parties like M.Mist & end up with beaten by some goons having a dialogue of "Aakodchi Anna B'day Enna".

Fail to understand, why only those females and their parents have to come forward to fight the case. What more proof is required, while all the scenes were LIVE on television? Inspite of viewing all the scenes and LIVE telecast of the boys and their parents speaking openly on MEDIA, WHY IS MANGALORE LEGAL AUTHORITY failed to take action on those responsible for this mishap and punish the culprit in public.

Hemalatha Mahishi is right, why can't girl victims come forward for the justice if they are totally innocent???, why they become indian women when they need to fight for the justice???...But celebrating the party & wearing dresses our indian women become typical european women!!!(as we know what kind of dress they wore in M.Mist party), what a change over!!!, similar kind of behaviour we can see in Priyanka Gandhi, when she is on the field we see her wearing saari so neatly like indian woman just to fool the people & off the field she is just typical european woman!!!...good sence of hypocracy!!

The legal system in this country is such a pain in the wrong place, that the victims opt to be silent rather than face the lawyers who would for sure humiliate them in the court. By the way, Why isnt there a fact finding mission or report for the 17 year old girl Sowmya who was gang raped and killed. Isnt she a human being ? OR is she a race below the rest?

    VERY GOOD COMMENT FROM ASHA.P.KADRI,
NOT A SINGLE WOMEN VICTIM WILL COME FORWARD TO FACE THE COURT PROCEEDINGS. THOSE WHO INSIDE THE JAIL NEVER CHANGE THEIR ATTITUDE, THEY WILL DO THE SAME THING AGAIN. THAT WHAT THE VICTIMS FEAR FOR.

Instead of the Girl victims coming forward, let them learn Karate, Judo, Teakwondo and wrestling. Also all women colleges in Mangalore city should introduce self-defense activities and clubs in order to safe-guard the interests of younger girls, women from the clutches of attackers and so called Moral f o o l i s h.

The 'HOME STAY ATTACK" has broken all the records of Mangalore history. Even during British rule this kind of atrocities may not have taken place. It is easy to say the victims should come in open, but our own society will treate them as second class citizens later. Better I feel the public should take a brave step and oppose that in future such things should not happen. Where is the ruling party now? May be in a deep slumber!!!

Indian women will not come and say I have been raped give me justice, you can expect this from European women but not Indian women. What more proof you want the video from Mr. Naveen itself is the proof it is a shame on India's constitution no justice given so far, animals are more safer than women are in India.

It is a shame still justice is not done in the Padil incident."Mangalam" means happiness. That is where Mangalore derives it's name from. But goondas are ruling the state and Gujarath, so dictators are ruling and justice is being prolonged, hijacked or twisted.Shows Mangaloreans are blinded in ing the leaders , so is Karnataka and India.

It is a irony that in undivided districts bad elements in the society are gaining upper hand under the vicious hand of .....Now, coming to the HOME STAY ATTACK concerned, main witness MR NAVIN Soorinje, media man who shoot the infamous incidence made accused by vested interest.Local court just excused the bail application citing that all accused in H.Stay attacks were sent to jail with out bail and so Navin!!!There is a deliberated plan to fix NAVIN in this case which is a unfortunate incident that happened in educated district of Dakshina Kannada. Why Navin only made scapegoat? There were dozens of media man who recorded/reported the incident live?Mr Navin Soorinje,ex employee of KARAVALI ALE, always exposed govt's double std and anti people policy of GOVT. In fact, when we see him as an media man, he always remained VOICE OF VOICELESS....To settle the score District Admin, Particularly police department hatched a plan to fix him in the case which turned to be fruitful so far.As far as victims(female)concerned, females always not coming to the fore due to various social reasons. The lukewarm response of THE DISTRICT WORKING JOURNALIST ASSOCIATION MANGALORE, also keeps this burning issue(NAVIN'S ARREST) secondary. Illegal fixing of media man is nothing but attack on fourth estate of democracy which should condemned by all citizens. We demand unconditional release of Mr Navin Soorinje,ASAP.By the by everything will be clear after DECEMBER 2012 and those responsible will be prosecuted and innocents will be released.
