Mangalore, Nov 20:
The 8th annual Pingara Rajyotsava Award 2012 instituted by Pingara newspaper was conferred on Jaya C Suvarna, president of All India Billawas Federation at a splendid programme held at Town Hall here on Tuesday November 20.

Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, bishop of Mangalore presented the award to Jaya C Suvarna.

Delivering his congratulatory address, the bishop said that the award is well deserved as Suvarna has worked hard for the unity of Billawas.

"He has served the society cutting across caste, creed and religion and opened the window of opportunities for many people," he said.

Appreciating the work put in by the Pingara team, the bishop said that in days when negative issues get more publicity, Raymond D’Cunha has done two good deeds - opposed yellow journalism and spotted those people who have responded positively to the society by instituting the Pingara Award. "Through positive journalism Pingara created awareness on arts and culture," he lauded.

Accepting the award Jaya C Suvarna said that reaching the peak of success should be the motto of everybody’s life, and not yearning for any appreciation or awards. "Life that is spent in the service of others is considered a perfect one," he said.

He also said that when the fourth estate, the media, is strong, the other three estates of the democratic system are also strengthened.

MLA Abhayachandra Jain, chief guest on the occasion said that Jaya C Suvarna has achieved success in banking sector and many could live their life with self-respect and dignity through his help.

K Laxminarayana Asranna, chief priest of Kateel Shree Durga Parameshwari Temple in his presidential address said that Jaya C Suvarna is known for his good deeds in society and he had unfurled the story of his success through his assistance to many people.

V P Lobo, president, T3, Urban Developers Limited who was the chief guest said that Jaya C Suvarna is the pride of Kannadigas in Mumbai.

BJP leader Shrikar Prabhu, Felix D’Souza, Mumbai also spoke on the occasion.

Roy Castelino, president of RACHANA, Dharmadarshi Harikrishna Punaroor, Mangalore Diocese PRO Fr William Menezes, Kudroli Shree Gokarnanatheshwara temple trustee Dr B J Suvarna, Press Club president Ramakrishna R, Pingara newspaper editor Raymond D’Cunha among others were present.
