Mangalore, Nov 21: A man has been arrested at Mangalore International Airport for possessing over one kg of gold.

The accused has been identified as Abdul Khadir from Bhatkal, aged around 25 years. He is a graduate from Fisheries College, Mangalore.

He arrived at the airport by the early morning Air India Express flight from Dubai on Wednesday November 21.

Acting on prior information, the officials of the directorate of revenue intelligence (DRI) arrested Abdul from the airport.

Sources said that the DRI officers have seized 1.11 kg of gold, worth Rs 35 lac, in the form of two bars and some ornaments.

This is the third incident of smuggling reported in the city in the last one month. Earlier, on October 23, Red Sanders Wood worth Rs 3 crore was seized by the DRI at Mangalore New Port, followed by confiscation of saffron worth Rs 25 lac at Mangalore International Airport on November 3.

Bringing gold is not a big crime, but there is a the limit as per the low. if look into our political system, there are many politician who bring out black money out of the country during there foreign visit. media never see or try to expose those activities because they are also involved with them. this is become very common to media to target whole community and present the wrong image. they just miss using there power. saffron or green they all represent India.instead pointing each others never going to get anything except disturbance, need of awareness, system must be clean from dirty politicians. system should be fare and justice, free from corruptions. then itself we expect good things.

When luck runs out, this is what happens otherwise this is common. 'Setting' is done before hand but due to act of God, sometimes the 'setting' fails like change of 'shift' etc etc. There are many trustworthy women NRI couriers also employed by leading jewelers all over the country who smuggle gold, some ready-made designs by wearing them and some by hiding.

Indian Govt. should encourage NRIs to bring in the foreign liquid assests such as currency and Gold without any duty. It makes sense in economic terms as India is not gold exporting country. I can understand the restrictions when one takes the gold out of the country.

DRI is such a powerful agency they should focus on number one custom duty evaders such as Beedi Manufacturing Industries, where billions of rupees at stake. It is an insult to DRI to prey on such a small fish.

What is wrong in bringing gold ornaments from Dubai, offcourse if it is related to smuggling then custom officials should take the actions against him, he may bring the gold ornaments to his family for their marriage purpose then whats wrong in that. First custom officials make sure that it is smuggling. If any NRI brings more than 20 grams of gold in Mangalore Airport then also custom officials are taking into task.

Nothing wrong in bringing Gold to India through any Ports but non-declaration of such Assets is called as smuggling which is punishable as per Indian Civil Code. Moreover Indian Law Agencies would like to know the source of Income to purchase this much Gold too. Had he d the Gold voluntarily, he could have paid Rs 500/- per gram i.e. 1.10 KG x Rs 500/- = Rs 5.50 Lakhs but now may be he lost the entire Gold plus punishment too. And same time, it will also gives doubt regarding final destination of Gold may be to one of the radicals who are interested in making trouble in India. And finally but unfortunately he is from Bhatkal too, which is now very popular in World map due to well known connection with most wanted terrorist

In this particular case did he opt for paying the duty or tried to escape without paying we do not know. If I want to bring 1 kilo gold and willing to settle the duty at government decided rate, will these custom officers will allow me to speak or directly I have to face arrest!
