Dubai, Nov 24 : Wilson Olivera, young composer and singer hailing from Padukone, Kundapur, regarded as a promising musician from the coastal region, entertained the Konkani music lovers of UAE who gathered in large numbers from across the Emirates to witness the musical show.

The event was held on Friday November 23 evening at Sheikh Rashid Auditorium of Indian High School, Karama Dubai.

It was the first mega show presented by St Michael's Mangalorean Konkani Community (SMMKC), ever since its inception a couple of years ago. Uttam Menezes was the main co-ordinator of the Wilson Olivera Nite, under whose leadership the show saw tremendous success, with the audience being entertained to the maximum.

Ronald Olivera, brother of Wilson Olivera, an equally talented person in the public speaking domain, took charge of show and kept the audience attention alive throughout with his class compering.

The event started at around 7 pm with lighting of the lamp. Padmashree Dr B R Shetty and Walter Nandalike of Daijiworld.com were the guests of honour.

"Wilson Olivera has been performing consistantly in the Konkani music world, and promises to be one of the top singers in Konkani's history. He is not only the undisputed leader in Konkani music in the Udupi dioicese, but is also spreading his presence all over the world, specially in the Gulf through his musical nites," said Walter Nandalike in his address. He congratulated SMMKC for putting up the houseful show.

Dr B R Shetty remembered 'Wilfy Nite' of bygone days when he used to support the shows initially in the UAE. He appreciated the efforts of SMMKC in organizing the event that was witnessed by such a huge crowd.

Mark Denis D'Souza, noted entrepreneur from Sharjah who has won the prestigious Rachana NRI of the Year Award was honoured for his service to the Konkani community in the UAE, and Sharjah in particular.

"Though Sharjah parish has existed since 1971, only in 2010 was the Konkani community association for Mangaloreans formed, under the leadership of young Uttam Menezes. I am grateful to the honour from SMMKC," said Mark Denis D'Souza in ackowledgement of the felicition.

Roshan D'Silva ably compered the stage programme.

The entertainment was top-notch with some of the prominent singers from India, Kuwait and Dubai rendering peppy as well as soulful numbers. Rony Dcunha from Kuwait, Zeena Pereira from Mangalore, Preema D'Souza, Ratan Castelino, Joseph Mathias, Pradeep Pinto, Nisha Lobo, Prashant Pinto and others from Dubai supported Wilson Olivera in the singing.

Me-Mo-Ri (Mellu-Moras-Richa) trio from Mangalore, supported by Lavina Fernandes from Dubai had the audience roaring with laughter with fillers in the form of skits and jokes.

Two prominent dance groups of Dubai - Ocean Kids headed by Vinod Sequiera and Feat Beat led by Arun Lobo - rendered spectacular performances.

Wilson Olivera was felicitated by the SMMKC for his contribution to Konkani music. Mark Denis D'Souza did the honours

In his thanksgiving note, Wilson said it was for the fourth time he was presenting musical nite in the last 10 years. He remembered and thanked all the organisers for their support in bringing him here, and specially to SMMKC for hosting his 32nd musical nite.

During the event Wilson's 'Six - Mix' containing all his six albums in one pack was released. by Lawrence D'Souza, president of SMMKC. The entry song 'Punvecho Chandrem' by Wilson Olivera was welcomed by the audience with a thunderous applause, as it was the perfect begining for the musical nite.

'Mhojea Jivant' by Rony D'Cunha, 'Yo re Tu Yo' by Zeena, 'Motonth Ek Asha - Nisha' by Ratan Castelino, 'Pauxillea Dissacho Vell' by Preema, 'Chandnem Udelam' by Joseph Mathias, 'Sahayak Vigar' by Nsha Lobo, 'Ashmitha' by Pradeep Pinto were some of the songs presented during the show, all of which received much appreciation from the audience.

'Mamma' song rendered by Pradeep-Prashant Pinto brothers, with fine lyrics of Wislon Olivera touched the audience.

At the end a non-stop medly by the entire Olivera team enticed the audience to dance along in their seats.

Adrian Gomes Kuwait arranged the music for the entire show with support from Rameiro Mascarenhas. The music and sound were excellent throughout the show.

Earlier, the organisers announced that the tickets for the show were sold out a few hours before the show.

The packed audience thoroughly enjoyed the musical nite which concluded at around 11 pm.

Vanith Carlo, I feel you have not made a proper observation between this show and others. I agree there were many good shows for past few years, but this was ‘THE PERFECT SHOW’ comparing to others because the time management was excellent there was no waste of single minute once the program was started, Sound and music was excellent, Lyrics were excellent, Dance and MC was too good, comedy was mind-blowing and addition to all these the hall was fully jam packed. Considering all these points anyone can say this was the best show, even I too say the same since I had attended this show as well as other shows. I attend all Konkani shows in Dubai for past few years, they were good no doubt about it, but there will be one negative or the other, If the song ions are good there might be a failure in sound or lots of time waste in between or no good comedy or something or the other etc..etc. But this was the show with perfect quality in everything. I do not feel there is anything wrong with any below comments. Whatever they have written it’s a fact. I agree with all the below comments since I have watched this live.

Dear Vanith Crasto, Mangalore… First and foremost you being in mangalore commenting on the below comments looks bit senseless. Did you attend this show? Have you seen how systematically the show was organised? Did you judge the quality of Music and lyrics in this show? It does not make any sense you commenting from mangalore without attending this show. If everyone says this is the best show that means it was the best show. Even according to me, it was one of the best shows ever I had seen… very well organised. I attend all the Konkani functions in Dubai but this was ‘THE BEST’.

He came, he spoke and he conquered!

Yesterday, if at all this phrase aptly suits someone, it is none other than the entire Gulf’s No. 1 Mangalorean personality that is Mr. B.R Shetty. I was simply over-gratified at the spontaneity with which he spoke hardly for 2 minutes but he sure made us all proud. I have heard many speakers praising the audience present. Almost all of them speak highly diplomatically, pampering and in general. However this man, believe me, from the word go was full blast showering all accolades and praises to the Mangalorean Konkans (he meant Mangalorean Konkani speaking Catholics) without mincing words, calling out even the names one by one of those who helped him initially in education, to come to the UAE, beginning of business, buying a vintage car and what not. He said he is deeply indebted to Mangalorean Catholics for what help he got from them.

Sir, in today’s deeply communally divisive political atmosphere of Mangalore what else do we Catholics need if not these few words of honest, sincere and unpretentious praise from a towering figure like you ? It sure made my heart happy, so it did to the repeatedly cheering crowds. Wish you spoke more.

Indeed, you stand taller than the Burj Khalifa !
